I mean bro it's supposed to be like a beginners JRPG. And the other JRPGs, especially for the SNES, ain't all that much harder TBH.

There's a couple or three legit difficulty spikes, when everything starts hitting for poison, or the companion badly mis-matches the encounters, and the places where everything's invisible.

the funny thing about that game is FF7 and 8 are actually harder.

FF6's difficulty is more in the fact that NOTHING gives you good exp in the entire game.
FF4, american version, is EQUALLY hard...maybe the final boss puts up a challenge but that's it.

Over in the PAL regions we were just salty that it was our first FF game.

FF6 is super easy, they give Edgar the AutoCrossBow at the start which is an AoE attack that does more damage than his normal attack and it costs nothing to use. And then you get Sabin and his Blitz rekts. That Moogle cave protecting Terra at the start can be a little hard if you have no JRPG experience, though.

FF7 is easy too man you can pretty much auto attack most of the way through, use limit breaks on bosses and it's pretty much GGEZ.

FF8 is a little harder because it's so different from the previous JRPGs we're used to but once you learn how the junction system works and get some early strong spells then the game is GGEZ.

It's not just that it's easy. Hell, FFIV had basically the exact same "difficulty" curve in its US SNES release.

It's more a combination of things. The "mash "A" to win battles," the on-rails overworld that totally sucks the fun out of exploring, the baby-tier writing ("Go get the Wind Crystal in Windia!"), the party members who are always stronger than you, making every battle even easier; in combination, it ends up feeling more like a flash game parody of Final Fantasy than an actual final fantasy game.

It may be a beginner's rpg; but tbh, if I were a beginner, and this was my first final fantasy, I doubt I'd ever want to play another one; I'd think they're boring as all hell.

I think there's a charm to a super basic ass game with not much flavor.

It was my first FF, and even back then, I knew it was kind of bland

The worst part is that the "battle zones" on the map seemed to be intentionally boring.

The difficulty isn't a problem, it's that the game is too simplistic. There aren't many meaningful choices to make in the gameplay.
