Why is it early 1900s again

Virologists have been predicting that for years. We've spent the last hundred years or so over-medicating everything, so now tons of diseases are evolving to become immune to treatment.

A lot of people have been predicting that the next hundred years or so is going to be brutal when it comes to disease. Which is why they were pushing for us to put infrastructure in place to deal with that sort of thing. Which got brought up a lot after Covid hit, because a lot of people were pointing out that we didn't take any of those precautions, and that was a large part of why we had no clue how to cope with it.

I've got a book written and published about two years before Covid hit that openly predicted a major pandemic within the next 20 years, and pointed out how unprepared we were as a society to deal with it. It kind of felt weird reading it in the wake of things.

Covid isn't going to be the last or only one, though. And we'll probably continue to fail to learn any lessons from the past.

Monkeypox is an Orthopoxvirus and is related to smallpox and cowpox. Human-human transmission is primarily through large respiratory droplets. So basically you need to use the same precautions as you would take for preventing the spread of COVID. We are so fucking doomed.

The smallpox vaccine is 85% effective at preventing monkeypox, however the vaccine hasn't been available to the general public since the 1970s. The vaccine is somewhat risky, with 7.8 cases of myopericarditis per 100,000 US military personnel vaccinated in 2003.

Monkeypox has a mortality rate up to 10% if untreated; the current variant circulating in the US is less deadly and there are a couple antiviral medicines available.

The initial symptoms are fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, and sweating. This is followed by a papular rash which starts as small flat spots (macules) which turn into small bumps (papules) filled with pus, which eventually burst and scab over. The illness can run for 2-4 weeks.

...Oh that's not a good sort of reference.

On the plus side, we do have a system for mass-vaccination, the channels are already made and tested.

It's all because there aren't enough monkeys left, so something else has to get monkey pox instead.

Its so bad lol but yeah if the past couple years are any indication, no ones actually learning from this shit.

I mean, fuck, people cant even learn how to cope with having to do some very easy things to keep others and themselves safe.

Absolute joke.
