Me looking at Bart Simpson

Bart had birthdays. So did Lisa. So did many characters.

What you think is clever really is not.
American cartoons have continuity and story telling.
Your cartoon monster game does not.
All it has is repeated plots. Ash goes to a new setting. Ash gets a new companion. Ash usually fails to get to the league/win it.

With the Simpsons we get wonderful story telling. Like the classic time Homer cheated on Marge. Or Homer cheated on Marge. Or even when Homer cheated on Marge.

It's more of a weird issue because he has canonically been through years of adventures that are constantly referenced despite his age remaining the same, while the Simpsons is mostly episodic. There are obvious issues and contradictions in both, but the Simpsons doesn't try to take itself at all seriously.

I honestly just assumed that Pokemon is a fantasy land where once you're '10' is really our 18 and people just age incredibly slowly physically

Bart is still in the fourth grade, and Lisa is still in the second grade. Episodes also skip ahead two or three years at a time for a joke, like the one where Marge gets a new kitchen and enters a cooking competition, and the episodes don't acknowledge that this actually happened because it's a joke.

The characters have birthdays, but they still don't age between episodes and the status quo doesn't change - just like Pokemon. The criticism is valid.

The Simpsons have non-canonical flashforward episodes, sure. But that's not the same thing. Bart has been a dead-end male stripper, a morbidly obese man who washes himself with a rag on a stick, a mooching deadbeat who smokes weed, and a supreme court justice. There's no continuity, outside of a handful of differing timelines like the ones with Bart's girlfriend Zelda.

Kinda sad that The Simpsons have had the HDTV longer than the SDTV.

i feel like bart would be a trump scotus pick and overturn roe v wade. the troll streak in him never died.

He would probably voice opinions like that and cause a shitstorm, but Lisa would tell him that she had an abortion 10 years previous and that in their state she would have went to prison (and he might have as well since he unknowingly drove her to the appointment) and this would open his eyes.

Do they have wizards in Japan? They might be responsible for continuity errors and other oddities there as well.
