But it's not like there's much description at all beyond character interactions. Like it's barely sex scene, despite that lots of sex happens during it.

And people don't really understand how it fits with the entire theme of the book. People depict it as random and absurd. But it made sense in the story.

IIRC, they were pretty sure they'd beaten It, though obviously they hadn't. Either way, they definitely didn't fuck in an attempt to beat It. I forget exactly what it was, but they couldn't find their way out of the sewers and losing their virginity (signifying the transition from childhood to adulthood) somehow helped them get out.

Because the scenes weren't gratitious at all? Again, people react as if the dude wrote a chapter of child porn, but in reality the written scenes are pretty close to PG. Like, the more uncomfortable scenes by far are the ones where Bev is spying on Patrick Hockstetter.

Eh, close enough.

I mean, central to the book is the way adults make children feel isolated and alone, and how childhood friendship is something special because of it. Magical even.

The tunnels were like a physical representation of this. Friendship bonds become too loose, and a friend gets isolated and lost. One of the big peices of tension in the book is about what happens to childhood friendship as kids start to grow up, go through puberty, transition to sexual desire and relationship seeking. This is essentially what the sex scene is supposed to represent, and why it kept them safe in the tunnels. A resolution of that tension, an acceptance of things changing, but bonds maintained.

That wasn't the reason I gave. I said they did it to 'drive/keep the creature away'. I was rather consistent about that. At no point did I characterize it as somehow defeating the thing. They weren't having a Ghostbusters proton stream moment. :P

From memory I thought it was something about the creature's power supposedly trapping them in the sewers, or that's how they perceived it. It wasn't like their orgy break was at a moment where the creature was physically present, as that would have been the end of everything once Chompy McChompface showed up.

Edit: If it was as the other poster suggested, and being done as a way to 'maintain their bonds' then that's even more fucked up. "I don't want us to forget about each other and our bond, so let's do it right here and now to remember. This is better than a blood promise, right? Right?..."

There is no justifying the child gang bang. I did not know about it before I read the book, and I couldnt believe what i was reading. This dude seriously used the flimsiest excuse for these little kids to fuck. It was gross.

I knew that scene would derail this topic but didn't expect it that fast or that hard. CE just gotta CE.

Wasn't it because they had the power of the Turtle (it acted through them) which made them less childlike but after defeating It, that power was waning, reverting them to the children they are. Bev sensed this, and had the "train" idea to help preserve the little they had long enough for them to find the exit. Plus the whole child into adulthood theme.

That was the intent behind the cocaine-fueled writing there, I think lol. It's still weird as fuck though. And the movie is a better concept of that too.

Like, the scene is clearly written to arouse fucking nobody. It would be one thing if it was written like a porn or something, but that's not the case.

My daughter is 10 years old. At this point she is just beginning to find boys handsome. She has a crush on Tom Holland.

That's a far cry from a group of 11 year old boys taking turns having sexual intercourse with an 11 year old girl. That's not normal sexual exploration for an 11 year old.
