I have no cite to back this up, but I heard that while gun shops are very eager to dishout background checks at every turn (umm... fix the verb thar), said background checks are often of dubious quality.

I wouldnt say eager as much as I would say legally required. I also dont know how a background check would be described as dubious quality, as its done by contacting the FBI using NICS, as far as my experience goes.

Id say dubious quality might apply to situations like in Texas when that guy shot up a church using weapons that were legally purchased but shouldnt have been sold to him. But that was due to the incompetency of the Air Force not reporting a domestic violence charge rather than a miss on the background check.

I don't get how people think you can just slink around background checks like it's nothing. I've purchased many guns over the years, from many different places. Online, gun shops, gun shows. I still had to get a background check for every single one.

The government that doesn't enforce background checks, assault-weapon bans, or red-flag laws and reckless parents who don't unload and safely store their guns when not in use.
