Seriously though, wow. There's no way this game wasn't a clear labor of love for the developers for it to have gotten to the condition it's in.

I just restarted subnautica on a new system, should have done this instead >_>

I wonder if my 2, 3? year old top of the line ships are worth anything at all anymore lol.

One thing that helps a LOT is that the inventory system is so much better. That high-capacity backpack means you can hold literally every important material up to 9999, so you wind up just buying everything in stores (because money is so easy to get thanks to scanner upgrades exponentially increasing the money you get from exploration/scanning). You never run out of anything, ever, and can craft anything basically anywhere.

I played maybe 30 hours when it came out disliking it a bit more every hour I played. I've heard its so much better now but I feel like the skeleton of what it is probably isn't for me.

There's so much more to it, especially from a multiplayer aspect.

Yes, you can still play it like an exploration / crafting experience if you want, but there's a deeper multiplayer questing thing that they developed that seems to really have a surprising amount of depth.

so you're saying that nothing matters because everything's given to you easily. so the only thing you do are quests repeatedly? what could the rewards possibly be that are worth it?

They kinda do a thing where the previously really difficult to obtain stuff becomes easier with the later updates, which I quite like, because they usually add more stuff.

There's just always something to do though. Is all of it fun? Maybe not, sometimes it's a bit too cumbersome. But I think both the mundane and the exciting kinda make up the entire experience.

Making the base is probably the best aspect out of anything though. Cuz it goes from like finding a system you like, finding a planet you like in that, hope you can build a base around a power source. There's a lot to consider, and you can do quite a lot of creative building and terraforming.

I literally nabbed one of the planets in a Gateway system (there's only like seven Gateway systems in an entire galaxy) named it and put my base on it. Feels good man.
