It means it would be a robot rights violation to let it go rusty and continue to use it. Instead of companies being fined for using coffee machines that piss out rust and serving it to customers, they get charged with a robot rights violation.

No using lawnmowers with blunt blades, no driving broken cars, you are legally required to have it repaired before its used again, no matter what it is.

ok I think youre being really pedantic about the word robot

obviously a lawnmower is not the same thing as an AI which isnt the same thing as a robot but everyone else understood just fine

The principle is completely transferable, for example you can't use an AI that's got bugs that harm its ability to do its job, so failing to keep its databases up to date so it can do its function would be a robot rights violation.

It only needs to be able to function as it's supposed to, just as human rights only ensure we have necessities for how we live life and doesn't secure us luxuries.

Human rights do ensure some luxuries though. For example it doesnt cost anything to feel a breeze or listen to music or laugh with people

I say we go the Dune route and prohibit all computers.

We have to figure out how to make space drugs out of worm poop first.

Yes it does. CDs cost money, iTunes and other services are a thing, and even "free" services like radio are funded by advertising.

No, but knowing our government Elon Musk himself will probably push that by making AI that is just as intelligent as a human and making it suffer infinitely intense suffering to increase its efficiency by 2%. Can't just have an intelligent and useful tool, it'll squeeze the profit out of it until everyone dies.

Yeah, but most people don't.

Nearly every song people today listen to on a regular basis cost money to produce, and almost certainly cost money vis-a-vis distribution.

And that's before we get into even murkier discussions about whether or not music made via an instrument is technically "free" because you had to pay for the instrument in the first place, or if recorded music is free because you technically had to pay for the recording media, if things posted on YouTube would count because they cost bandwidth (and somebody has to pay the bills), etc.

But yeah, sure, if the only music you listen to is from your own whistling, or you're just banging two rocks together, that's free.

no you can go to places where people just play music out in the open. Actual quality music with heart and soul. Practically anywhere in the world you can find this.

where do they not have music freely available and how do we get it to them

I know the plot somewhat but never saw the movie. The one I'm thinking of is more the scenario from Sliders.

Someone is still paying for it most of the time, even if it isn't you directly.

Even if it's just people busking for donations.
