The new Aya Neo Air will have a version with 32GB RAM. This is good news since it suggests they're making 32GB variants a regular thing, so the Aya Neo 2 and/or Aya Neo Slide (which I'm hanging out for because ykno RDNA2 and USB4) should almost certainly have 32GB variants too; at which point bam, there's the perfect new PC for me. Or at least as close as is likely to ever exist.

How does this compare to the steam deck?

Way better specs, not an oversized chungus, current models are weaker GPU-wise but that'll change when they release models with the Ryzen 6800U, natively runs Windows, way more expensive.

Wouldn't really recommend if you just want a portable gaming device, unless size is a deal breaker on the Steam Deck for you. For me though, I intend it to be my main PC, using it docked for general use and sometimes handheld for gaming.

SteamOS is a bit hit or miss at the moment, but it definitely has a ton of potential. It has a lot of gaming-specific features, and it's adding new features all the time. It's also better optimized and comes out of sleep mode faster. But Windows is still far superior for game compatibility, though the gap is slowly closing.

Eventually it will go open source, and it will be installable on any x86 device, including the Aya Neo. Though the Steam Deck has some features that can't be replicated, like the trackpads.

I mean you could probably install SteamOS on it anyway, but that's more a question aimed at those who care purely about gaming and dont want to use it for anything else - and as I said already, my view is that the Deck would be a better option for such people anyway. In particular due to the far lower price tag.

I don't know about Air, but Aya Neo 2 is supposed to be 2x more powerful in CPU and GPU. Think its using a 6nm node from TSMC.

Looks interesting but why would you use this as your main PC? Genuine question.

Docked when using for anything other than portable gaming. Avoids the need for multiple devices. With 32GB RAM it's far more than powerful enough for me - only issue with the current models is the weak GPU (and no support for eGPU to get around that while docked).

not an oversized chungus,
The deck is a good size though, it's perfectly comfortable for my hands and I'm on the small side
