Blade Runner is not boring, but I think it's also really easy to misunderstand what this movie was trying to do. Especially for a modern audience. It's practically the godfather of cyberpunk. But if you go in looking for the kind of edgy, two-dimensional action figure characters that came from its influence and the flashing lights and heroic shootouts, you're gonna be a little disappointed without a pair of double retro glasses. One for the late 70's/early 80's. One for the 50's/60's. I'd compare it to Evil Dead....

..... if you go into The Evil Dead or The Evil Dead 2 looking for a traditional horror experience, you just ain't gonna get it. It's an indie, not even a B movie. It's a comedy for the most part. To scifi? Blade Runner is similar. It's about the emotions of the synthetics, not what makes them tick. It's about the humanity in a fight, not being a war hero. That was a big deal for people back then, especially post Star Wars, and as a nod to sci-fi readers who I'm sure were feeling more and more alienated by the mainstream market which was opting more for science action than science fiction.

Yep

The main points being the narration and the unicorn. Dark City has a similar thing going on.

It's not like Donnie Darko or Star Wars, which were recut to perfection as opposed to a disagreement over direction

Yeah I struggled through it just so I could experience the movie once.

But I actually like the scenes of him talking with the characters. Its the weird dreams and unicorn shit I didnt care for.

Also even without any kind of retro glasses, I really liked the scene at the end where throughout the movie the dude is fighting Harrison Ford and then he... saves Ford from falling down the building. That part really got me. It was just so... unexpected. And then they just have a moment with each other, and he talks about his life, and gives this monologue, and its just really good.

That part of the movie at least stands the test of time.

(there can only be one!)

He gets the girl at the end of Blade Runner, the relationship is star crossed and controversial, the villains are more ambiguous or even internal and leave their mark at the end of the movie as a lingering presence unphased by the events of the movie and perhaps even yet to strike in any real capacity, with the question being whether Roy Batty was a victim or hero in his own way, and if Deckard was the villain's pawn. There are no aliens. There is no magic. There are no metaphors. Everything has a corporate explanation. It's very mundane. Etc. Polar opposite of SW, including that it has Han Solo in the lead seat

Or if there are no real villains, just people

Yeah that was neat. Like when he punches through the wall to grab his hand, rips out the gun, breaks his fingers....then gives him the gun back lol. I figured something was up when he did that

lolwut, there's a different ending in the previous versions where after Deckard and Rachel board the elevator, it cuts to them driving a sunny country side with Deckard narrating that Rachel doesn't have a limited lifespan. Man, that would've been so weird to see >_>

Blade Runner is one of the best sci-fi films ever made, and the Final Cut is a masterpiece.

It's also boring as shit. So is Citizen Kane. And Apocalypse Now. And 2001: A Space Odyssey. All of them, masterpieces.

I figured they cut it out. It was added in protest because the studio demanded the theatrical release have a narration.

It's one of the most awkwardly uncomfortable moments in cinema history. It's kind of a shame they left it out, really. <_<
