Board 8 > The whole Shantae series is on sale (eShop), which ones are worth playing?

I tried the first one for about 20 minutes literally almost two decades ago and didn't like it much, but I didn't give it a fair shot, and for all I know later games are big improvements. Which games are the best and is the whole series worth playing?

Pirates Curse is probably the best one

I couldnt get into the original, but other than that I had fun with all of the rest.

Pirate's Curse is the only real GREAT game. But damn is it good.

I attempted the original a few times, and beat Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse. Pirate's Curse is the only one that struck me as reasonably good.

This is pretty much the general consensus.

IMO Risky's Revenge > Pirate's Curse > Seven Sirens > Half-Genie hero > original. Not that the original is a BAD game, it's just a GBC platformer and it shows.

Wario Land II is a GBC platformer too.

I thought the first one was fine. Maybe just a little too zoomed in for how big the world is.

The original is super ambitious for a GBC platformer, honestly. Yeah it's jank in a lot of ways but it gets a really bad rap. Still, I would only check it out if you're curious about that sort of thing.

I've only played the first three, I'd say Pirate's Curse is good but Risky's Revenge is a skip. It's a pretty mediocre, less streamlined version of 3. It retains a lot of the clunkiest bits of the first game like the overworld while ALSO getting rid of the interesting things it was doing like the dancing mechanics and transformations.

I say play all of them! They're all extremely fun and they're some of my favorite metroidvanias!
