I've always liked Mystic Pendulum. The vocals have this magical feel to them which is very pretty. Necessary Discrepancy is also good overall, but I think I'd like it a lot more if the singers voices just sounded different? I don't know, but there's some parts that really don't work for me because of the tone of their voices. Even in the ideal case though it still probably wouldn't be enough for this match in particular, but still a good song for sure. Wouldn't be sad at all to see it win.

No strong feelings on the tiebreaker so I am abstaining and this will definitely not backfire.

Mystic Pendulum > the other 2 songs > Egg Reverie

Mystic Pendulum
Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss Theme
Scroll Stage

Mystic Pendulum 5.5 Imagine solemnly singing out to the crying sky as doom and destruction rains down around you,, like giant meteors or mgs mechas. Japanese vocals are nice to listen to. I'm not sure if I like the faint piano and bubbly popping sounds in the background. I think this song started to wear out after i heard the chorus for the 3rd time, it could stand to be a bit shorter.

Necessary Discrepancy 3.5 Guilty gear belts out a passionate performance of something a bit indecipherable. I don't really like this song. It sounds like scattered sounds put together for the sake of it. It lacks a strong enough harmonic base for me. It's always the most grandiose, complex songs that vgmc likes.. which is fine, but it's not for me. The guitar riffs followed by the slower soulful vocals around the 2:20 mark was my favorite part.

Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss Theme 7.5 Prog rock with a plethora of intense guitar solos and catchy piano riffs make this a really upbeat and solid tune

46:ri9 4 I appreciated the use of silence and how the song contrasted the calmer parts against the intense climatic parts. Xenoblade music is generally good at that. Otherwise, I didn't really care for this song. Besides the mechanical noises thrown in here and there, this sounded pretty generic to me.

Necessa/ri/ Catalepsy

Mystic Pendulum: A secret cave hidden away in the hills is filled with clear, gleaming water that sparkles with the light of a thousand stars.

Necessary Discrepancy: As an artificial intelligence gathers data about the world over thousands of years, it yearns to experience these things for itself.

Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss: Chasing the hero as they weave in and out of traffic, the big bad gets increasingly angrier, turning up their thrusters in efforts to catch up.

46-:ri9: Even in what seems like unending darkness, a single point can be made out in the distance, shining brightly as it seems to say, "I am alive."

Necessary > Mystic > 46 = Egg > Emmental = Scroll

no idea if this is consistent with my previous ranking of these two songs oops ! lol!

Guilty Gear -Strive- - Necessary Discrepancy
Sonic Mania - Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss Theme
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil (GBC) - Scroll Stage

Swapped my vote for Xenoblade X at the last minute. I really love Sawano's music and the fullness of his production but I seem to consistently enjoy Egg Reverie more. Thank you so much to whoever nominated Necessary Discrepancy. Today's bounty:

[9.5] Necessary Discrepancy
[8.0] Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss Theme
[8.0] 46-:ri9
[7.5] Scroll Stage
[7.5] Mystic Pendulum

Mystic Pendulum [7.8]
Necessary Discrepancy [7.4]

Kinda just feeling the softer, poppy vocals for today; they satisfy me enough. Necessary Discrepancy has been growing on me a little bit, but it's nowhere near my favorite from the Strive soundtrack.

Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss Theme [8.9]
46-:ri9 [8.5]

I really do like the mix of subtle and triumphant tones used for Xeno X, it gives me the kind of ambiance/background sound I can easily appreciate. Unfortunately, it's going right against what's easily one of my favorites from Sonic Mania, even as loaded as that OST is in general. Tee Lopes has easily claimed my heart (and ears) in this match.

Tiebreaker Round:
Scroll Stage is still too much of a banger for me to pass up on.

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk - Mystic Pendulum
Sonic Mania - Egg Reverie ~ Extra Boss Theme
Mad Rat Dead - Emmental Catalepsy

MATCH 1

Mystic Pendulum is my favorite song in Bracket A! As far as Atelier songs go, it's actually far from my favorite in the series. In fact, out of the Atelier songs I have retired in my favorites bracket (which, as it turns out, is all 5 of the Atelier songs in the bracket hahaha), Mystic Pendulum is my second-least favorite one, only ahead of Wind's Blooming Mountain. Despite that, I still really like it, and it swept its way to championship in my bracket pretty easily, only facing serious competition in Nuedori in round 5. What I like about this song the most is actually its intro! The vocals and the piano there are just so happy and emotional, and I really love it! The rest of the song is great too. General good melody and harmony all around.

Necessary Discrepancy is really cool too! I don't really listen to a lot of prog metal, but I'd say with this song, I like it more for the metal than the prog. Some of the best parts of this song are the lead guitar riffs like 1:20-1:31. I also like that "denial, denial" part at 0:37. Pretty melodically appealing to me, but unfortunately, it's pretty much the only part where the singing is appealing in that way. Other parts like 0:55 and 2:10 are pretty meh in my opinion. Still, this definitely one of the better songs up today.

MATCH 2

Not much to say about Egg Reverie. Cool and energetic, and I definitely like it!

I really like the sad, heartfelt sound of 46-:ri9, especially at parts like 1:48, but I feel like I'd appreciate it more hearing it in context within the game. That part in particular kind of reminds me of sad VN music that I like. Lamplight from Little Busters comes to mind. Though I don't feel as strongly about the buildups to the most powerful parts of the song. This match wasn't as close when I was filling out the favorites bracket, but it feels a lot closer today. I still feel comfortable voting for Egg Reverie. I think it's more consistently good.

Running short on time today, so my thoughts will be relatively brief (maybe). Mystic Pendulum has a lot of nice elements to it. Very nice vocals, piano, melody, and all-around production. I like the (fake) strings at 4:12 quite a bit. Very good song, and it'll definitely take my vote for this match.

Necessary Discrepancy is so good for the first minute or so. Awesome prog elements and instruments. Then NAOKI comes in and ruins it lol (I really don't like his voice). It's still overall a better song than most Guilty Gear Strive songs.

Egg Reverie is a fun song. Nice piano and synth solos. The guitar solo around 1 minute in is very cool. The loop is a bit on the short side though, and it's facing one of my favorite songs, so it unfortunately won't get my vote.

46-:ri9 (decodes to Shiro no Tairiku, which is the Japanese name for Sylvalum) is my second favorite XCX song. The instruments used and the melodies are absolutely exquisite. Honestly one of my favorite Sawano melodies in general. The mystical feel fits really well with the environment it's made for. And then in the night version, the song really comes to life. Such a great song.

I still don't care much for Scroll Stage or Emmental Catalepsy, but Emmental is less offensive to me, so it'll still get my vote.
