Public shaming on social media often has a grossly disproportionate penalty inflicted on the person you shame. A single retweet like that may have cost that guy his entire career, and that's why it's important to contact those individuals in private first. Unless you really do want to destroy somebody's life over something stupid they retweeted, in which case that's pretty harsh but you do you.

With barely any women in professional positions, probably not many people. Anyway, the retweet was definitely wrong, especially from someone at his position. He deleted it and apologized and was also suspended...that shouldve been the end of it.

I just don't understand how you can call yourself a progressive when you have an unforgiving craving for bloodlust. People can change, they can improve, they can learn from their mistakes and become better people but what's the point if you dunno how to forgive and give them a chance for any improvement?

That's how I see it too. Give the guy an opportunity to learn from it and fix it. There's some wiggle room there for people who are egregiously bad (violence, threats, continual repeated issues, etc) but this isn't one of those situations in my eyes.

Don't try to fire up all of twitter at first. All that will do is make someone super defensive and a lot less willing to learn from their actions.

But I don't use Twitter so WTF do I know.

Imagine working at a place where your coworkers will jump to social media to publicly condemn you the moment you mess up instead of coming to you in person or bringing their concerns to HR.

AND the staffers monitor the likes that a tweet about please dont online abuse, go to HR instead -get and break down the likes by gender for gauging how problematic it is.

Theyre supposed to report the news but they obviously want to be the news the way they conduct themselves in public.

This is becoming pretty funny. I hope she continues.

Good people knows how to forgive those who knows when they've made a mistake.

Unfortunately today's journalists are mostly bad, catty, and vindictive people (like worse than a Karen) often with warped agendas to boot. They think they are better than common people and in most cases, they are far from it.

Yeah. She's not wrong -technically- but the way she handled it was rather extreme, unprofessional and overly dramatic.

Oh my god I just saw a tweet of the news and was gonna bump this topic but yall beat me. That toxic lady was fired.

The Post's termination notice, a copy of which was seen by CNN, said Sonmez was fired for "misconduct that includes insubordination, maligning your coworkers online and violating The Post's standards on workplace collegiality and inclusivity."

"We cannot allow you to continue to work as a journalist representing The Washington Post," the letter concluded.

People like Sonmez dont want an apology anyway. They want to watch the world burn, and somehow her and her fellow ideology dorks will be the ones left to rebuild how they see fit. The companies dont want your apology either. They see bad publicity, which means boycotts and such. Regardless, she sounds like a headache that HR directors would be stupid to hire.

WaPo really just handled this incredibly poorly.

I have noticed a correlation amongst people that are the most vocal and zealous in pursuing their agenda about bringing the immorality of others to light are quite often toxic themselves. People like that remind me of religious fundamentalists, Im sure she feels she was the victim in this scenario though.
