Been busting my ass at this security company for 9 years and finally getting recognized.

getting bumped from $16 to $21! I barely scratched 30k last year, and I should be making over 40k now

relieved doesnt begin to describe it, I had a hard time falling asleep last night lol

I have, gotten job offers but they werent good moves. Variety of reasons, but it was never worth leaving.

Ive gotten raises since I started, but theyve been few and far between.

started the job unarmed after $10.

got bumped to $12.50 after getting armed, like 6 months later.

and then yeah Id get a dollar every couple years.

and $21 to watch cameras all day, Id say thats pretty good

Ive been here since I got armed, and my co worker has been here 6 months. Hes constantly missing work, like at least 1 day per week. Worked as many 4 day weeks as he had 5 day weeks lol

anyway, with him being out so much, they realized I can handle this on my own.

said they wouldnt trust anyone else to do it, only doing it because they know Im capable.

so I guess a little of both

That's awesome. I feel like most companies would just keep it as a one man show and keep all the money that's supposed to go to the second guy. I'm glad they are giving you part of it for doing more work.

Good stuff. A pay bump of that magnitude has to feel great.

Yeah. That seems like not really a lot of money. Like that $15 hr minimum wage still kind of on the low side of things.

Accounting for inflation+CPI, one can argue you're still getting less bang for the buck now compared to 9 years ago.

Yeah. Unfortunately my hands are kinda tied as far as jobs go. I have no degree/trade school, and most of my job experience has been in security.

so it was kinda hard to find something paying better than $16, in a brand new field, that was also close enough to home. Like I turned down an offer for $18 because the commute would have nullified the extra $2, and i would lose 3 weeks of PTO

I mean, if you've been in one field at one company for nine years, that's a big perk on a resume. People like tenure. You should be able to find a similar role for a much larger payday.

Granted I don't know what job hunting for security roles looks like, but nine years of experience for the same company should get you something far better.

Hell yeah. I had a coworker who fucked up majorly the other week, opened a door that never should be propped open and as a result a homeless guy got into the building and had to get removed via the cops. My coworker got removed from the worksite afterwards, and her new worksite pays $3 more an hour than she was making here and $2.50 more than me. The thing is, unlike my coworker I am sure TC deserved this pay raise and multiple others.
