It's always been kind of a goofy crutch but it just gets more obnoxious every season. Seems like the Matt Smith years really started escalating it but it's just gotten out of hand now. It takes away from the Doctors smarts and ingenuity when they can just say "lol, sonic screwdriver broke/fixed it". It can also scan to find out the exact time and place they are at any given time, track heat and energy signatures, interact with any digital or even just electrical system. The Doctor doesn't have to do anything anymore, just sonic everything. It's always been a joke that it's a kind of nebulously defined little tool but now it's just an infinite supercomputer in their pocket. It's just another example of really lazy writing on top of the bad writing that has been plaguing the series for years now. Just get rid of the damn thing. --- https://i.imgur.com/AUXKMK4.jpg ...
