By the way, I bought 200 rounds of Winchester 5.56 FMJ for $110 from OpticsPlanet. Can't wait for it to get delivered, so I can bring it to the range and fire some rounds.

That was the cheapest I could find, for Winchester. TulAmmo and Wolf were cheaper, at like $0.39/Rd, but i don't trust their ammo... Plus they're Russian brands.

Fair enough. I'm not a fan of the steel case stuff either.

Needed to register it as an assault weapon with the state, can't sell it or give it away, so it'll be destroyed when I die, but still legal in CA, until they make it illegal, then it gets melted into something more useful I guess.

I'm not trying to be a hater do whatever but you can get an Amazon flip up back sight for like $20 and you could run both but if the open emitter sight you have goes down you could just flip it up. No sense in having a front sight base with no back up.

The right to travel doesn't protect all forms of transportation. Just like with the second amendment, we don't have full auto(anymore), burst fire, or explosives without mountains of paperwork or grandfather clauses. Hunting for sport controls animal populations. Whitetail deer are so populous that if left unchecked would literally run out of space and food, and die a horrible death. Not to mention their human interaction would increase to dangerous levels. Besides getting hit by cars, the male deer are very aggressive during the rut. They will attack people they come too close to.

Hunting for sport is the only reason some animal species still exist in Africa as the money from sport hunting provides an incentive for local governments to make sure there is enough of those animals to hunt.

Also not getting your kicks from killing living things for fun would stop them facing extinction as well.

What I really don't get is people who buy guns chambered in 556 just to do target shooting. You could do target shooting for way cheaper with a 22.

Some people rather shoot .223, some like 5.56, I personally hate the wimpy lame .22 cal round and prefer .380 acp as the smallest I will shoot.

If a person finds 5.56 fun for target shooting then leave them be.

You practice with what caliber you intend to use as primary ammo to get used to it. I could practice with a .22 pistol, but its not going to prepare me to handle a 9mm pistol or anything else. The feel is too different. Same with rifles.

its not just about putting holes into some paper. if you wanted to do that a pellet rifle would suffice for most. its about the raw feedback you get with more powerful rounds and the actions of the firearms themselves. if you treat it as a training tool then obviously youd want to use what you might be using in a conflict situation. if you want to carry a .357 it doesnt make much sense to only practice with .38. the AR specifically is one of the best setups you can get to cover as many options as you can. no doubt there is a "cool" factor there, but as a firearm its one of the best "jack of all trades" guns in general that has ever been made.

5.56 is a way more accurate cartridge than 22lr. They are basically the same size projectile but 5.56 has way more charge behind it. One of my AR's is converted to .22 and it impacts way lower at 100 yards with 22 than 5.56. You aren't wrong though, there is a cool factor too, people like military stuff (I like military pistols).
