The problem is that opinion is I should be able to do it but everyone else is going to hell for even thinking about it.

Or, you know, "I did it and have come to understand it was a terrible mistake and I regret it immensely, and I think other people should be protected from making the same mistake."

I mean, I'm pro-choice and I'd still tend to see the opinions of a woman who's actually had an abortion to be way more valid than the opinions of anyone with a penis, regardless of which side of the argument she's on.

Zero chance her current opinion on abortion is motivated by regret. Ask anyone working in an abortion clinic and they'll tell you that they get a lot of pro-life clients who will tell them at length that what they're doing is heinous - before, during, and after their procedure. None of that stuff matters once it affects them personally.

I dislike this idea that only firsthand experience is valid on subjects of discussion. Like, you wouldn't think that the opinions of, say, a male OB/GYN doctor who has been involved in hundreds, if not thousands of pregnancies/abortions, would be afforded more weight than a woman who had one abortion?

One need not develop cancer to understand it is a terrible illness.

I wouldn't say zero chance, but it is indeed extremely common for pro-lifers to be blatant hypocrites who will happily get an abortion for themselves or their daughters while actively calling every other abortion in history evil. Their case is special, after all, and their daughter was just a victim of bad luck, unlike every other unwanted pregnancy that was the result of irresponsible hedonism.

Like the TERF's that surprisepikachu'd when the politicians they'd aligned themselves with to push transphobic agendas started also pushing misogynist agendas, I fully expect that these people would throw some truly spectacular tantrums if the anti-abortion laws for which they're campaigning actually came into effect and those laws meant they also couldn't get abortions. The concept of cause and effect tends to elude these people.

First, she's a woman. Second, she's actually had an abortion. I don't agree with her opinion, but I do think PO is right that those two facts actually lend some credibility to her opinion that I think is stupid. If we aren't listening to women who have been in this position who do we listen to? Just because you don't agree with her doesn't mean her experience should be ignored.

You're asking the wrong person. I refuse to have male service providers for my reproductive health. I don't believe I can receive the same level of care, comfort and concern in that area that a woman would give to me. That's how a lot of women feel. And a lot don't feel that way.

It's really disheartens me to see people taking her position seriously just because she is a woman though lmfao. Boebert is an amoral grifter above all else. Sure, let's go with this logic.
In that case, we should give the most deference to abortion providers. They've had experience with dozens or even hundreds of abortions. Clearly they have the most expertise on this matter, so we should set abortion policy based upon their recommendations.
Just because you disagree with them doesn't mean their experience should be ignored.

Once again never mind that the experience was so traumatic for her that she went back and did it again. Or that she's so proud to tout her own personal experience on the matter as guiding her policy that she....hid it until journalists uncovered it.

I'm pro choice. I agree with you that they're in the moral wrong. What I object to is the idiocy of your argument. It's designed to be polarizing. You are directly contributing to the other sides success. We are on the same side of this issue, but you are fighting actual progress, and causing a detriment to my cause. I don't care lmao. It's patronizing for men to act like they have any idea what pregnancy does or can be like. It's laughable for the GOP to act like they care about babies. Yeah and the fact that I know how serious and terrible pregnancy is and that I'm a woman who can go through it means I should be able to have options. You can't get accidentally pregnant. I can. Your argument fails because I have the ability to become pregnant and you can't.

This would be like me having an opinion on a topic that only affects men - like your ability to have a vasectomy. I have no right to tell you you shouldn't do that because the Bible says birth control is wrong lmao. I don't have a dick and I don't make semen.
