I mean the billionaires.

Sure the contestants were helpless but if the armed guards wanted to, they could have just killed the Billionaires and taken the money.

It was right there.

Unless it was fake prop money since they give the due a credit card at the end so he can get a bad haircut.

I mean we already saw a bunch of guards go against orders for some scratch on the side and none of the guards have an issue with killing. Imagine if like 20 of them did it.

Nothing about that show makes sense if you actually think about it.

The fact that nobody was aware that the game was lethal immediately makes it something that would've been stopped by authorities, and there's no way the "vote to end the game" would've gone down to the wire.

I think you missed the subtext

The entire point was that society is so bad to these people that continuing to live without the money is a fate worse than death

That's the vote to end the game went down to the wire.

Now admittedly if they knew from the start, half of them wouldn't have turned up but hey ho

It's criticizing the casual dehumanization of capitalism, where the "dregs" of society get ignored and left in horrible living conditions.
