Current Events > Anyone else feel that both the US and UK Amber Heard/Depp verdicts were correct?

I feel like people just pick a side of person they like more or for some reason it's become a left/right divide.

And then people say "Oh the UK case was wrong and rigged, how can you have a judge whose son works for the Sun when that's what the case is about!" or "Man the US case was a joke, the UK already settled this, the cameras and jury were just swayed by the star power of Jack Sparrow and social media!"

And act like both results have to be the same... They were different trials.

The US one was whether or not Heard defamed Johnny by lying about him beating and abusing her. Which she blatantly did and a Jury saw it as she just couldn't stop lying.

The UK one was about whether or not a newspaper has the right to refer to Depp as a wifebeater and the "burden of proof" or however you want to phrase it just has to met the standard that it was not unreasonable for the newspaper to believe it to be true. And considering Depp threw phones at Amber and other stories that was floating around, it absolutely wasn't.

You don't want newspapers unable to talk about powerful people for fear of being sued over hyperliteralism and you don't want liars like Heard to flat out accuse people of horrible things they never did and ruin their lives/careers.

Both cases were correct. Followed correct protocol and reached a decision that made sense for their cases.

I think they should both have been awarded zero dollars and both forced to never see each other again. Its what would have been best for both of them.

Yeah, you are right about this, Unfair.

I mean, the UK trial verdict was correct in that the newspaper Johnny was suing wasn't out of line in their capacity to publish their article(s). While the US trial verdict was correct in that Amber was definitely making stuff up to defame Johnny.

Most people don't even understand American Court/law, so you can't expect them to understand how UK courts at all. I kinda assume most people think it's just like America if it's a first world country (besides a few)
