Obvious religious themes aside, there's a certain extra layer of cleverness, depth and high-brow humor to the Narnia series that I've always found entertaining. He was very ahead of his time with meta humor and semi fourth-wall breaking subtext. "There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it."
