It's really bad. Don't get me wrong, it's important to teach why and how the average German embraced Nazism and became perpetrators of the Holocaust, but that isn't teaching it as a valid "side" of an issue, and we all know that's not what they're going for here.

I mean isn't this a good thing? There's a whole movie on this "Conspiracy" filmed in 2002 which depicts high ranking Nazi officials discussing "the final solution to the Jewish question". It's crazy how they thought of Jews as pests and non-human.

Isnt the German perspective already taught? They thought they were racially superior and those not of what they considered their race (along with various defective groups) were lower and deserved to be annihilated. They then attempted to put their believes into reality, killed millions and millions of Jews, lgbt, mentally ill, Roma, and more.

whereas the allies view was you shouldnt kill all those people and try to take over the world.

It's always been there, it was just more politically expedient for them to hide it or obfuscate it at various times. Now they can be fully open about it.

Also, a reminder that Hitler was heavily influenced by both Jim Crow laws and the American eugenics movement (and this is a documented fact that he himself wrote about, before any mods get snippy)

I can't say i'm surprised here, but i wasn't aware the US had a eugenics movement.
Was it just an idea floating around, or was it being put into practice at the time?

Me being Swedish, i've always heard more emphasis on that Adolf first and foremost took inspiration from the Swedish eugenics program.

Though i guess people can get inspired from multiple sources

Oh yeah, it was a big thing in the US, though if I remember right it really came to prominence in the UK before moving here (maybe similar in Sweden? I can't speak to that one). Madison Grant's (a prominent American eugenicist) The Passing of the Great Race was a book Hitler referred to in a letter to Grant as "his bible" and it has also served as a foundational text in the white genocide conspiracy theory. American eugenicists were also quite happy to see their ideas taking hold in Germany, as Rockefeller provided research support via grants and funding for both Mengele and Ernst Ruedin. I wrote one of my favorite grad school papers on the subject lol.

This is a good general overview of it:

That simply isn't true, but the sad part is that in many ways it's much worse than that.

If it were as simple as "most of the GOP are secretly fascists" it'd be a lot easier to fight back.

The problem is that most of the GOP voter base are politically ignorant / apathetic, and their entire view of politics boils down to "stop the liberals from corrupting our kids and starting Communism." They leave the details to their elected officials - and that's where the devious stuff sets in. Those officials can do whatever they want without any consequence, because their voters straight-up don't even pay attention to what they're doing, as long as they're occupying a seat instead of a Democrat.

Right, because most of them (speaking for the party leadership, not necessarily all voters) are openly fascist now. The GOP's closest foreign analogues are literally far-right fringe parties like AfD, Fidesz, Vox, FN, etc. They are no longer a mainstream conservative party. They held their fucking convention in Hungary this year where they all praised its lack of democracy.

You've gotta get over some of your lingering soft spot for your former party

I don't have a soft spot for them, I was part of it for two decades. I know the average GOP voter.

The problem isn't that these folk actually agree with all this corrupt, evil shit going on. The problem is that 90%+ of them think that none of it is actually true, or that it's heavily spun by the liberal media.

The few GOP friends I have who paid attention to the Jan 6 hearings have confided in me that they straight-up could no longer support the man. The problem is that the vast majority of GOP voters listen to folks like Tucker Carlson, who tell them that it's all a show and shouldn't be watched because it's propaganda.

Even my dad, the most hardcore traditional Republican I know (but nevertheless always values my input) has finally lost his will to vote for what he calls the "Trump GOP."

The bigger issue with the GOP, as I see it, is that both the politicians and voters live in a HEAVILY controlled misinformation echo chamber that results in all of them seeing and hearing the same things, and not seeing/hearing the stuff everyone else does. And that creates an entire group of people who almost quite literally see an entirely different reality than everyone else. It's Orwellian and disturbing, and it goes way beyond just fascism/racism/etc. It's a kind of creepy authoritarianism that ironically is quite contrary to traditional conservatism, but they don't have enough knowledge to realize it.

When all you see on FOX, every single day, is 25% Trump cronies making false election fraud claims (without rebuttals or fact checking), 25% COVID misinformation, 25% Hunter Biden laptop stories and 25% Culture Wars... you don't actually see the real world. These people are legitimately brainwashed. It's not just extreme political views - it's that they are in a carefully constructed alternate reality that is not the real world, and they don't even realize it.

There was a recent study where they took a bunch of FOX News viewers and had them watch CNN (or another news network besides FOX) for a few weeks, and after those few weeks - they were basically entirely different people, with many expressing genuine surprise at all the things FOX didn't talk about.

In short, when you think "who could see Jan 6 and think that was OK?" you're not really asking the right question. NO ONE (except absolute nutcases) would see the full picture of Jan 6 and think it was OK. But the average GOP voter didn't see Jan 6. They saw Laura Ingrahm ask if Antifa was involved. They saw Sean Hannity interview Mike Lindell. That's the news they saw.

I witnessed countless people die of COVID over the past two years, and I will NEVER forget about all the patients who expressed legitimate shock at the cognitive dissonance of realizing that COVID actually was real and actually was dangerous. Or the patient who innocently noted that FOX spent all the time talking about the blood clots from the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, but never mentioned that 1 in 10 COVID patients get blood clots. She legitimately said she didn't know COVID causes blood clots - because FOX didn't tell her.

That's the problem.

Half this country is being brainwashed by a highly complex system of extreme right-wing misinformation networks that are very coordinated and extremely dangerous, and the longer we focus on the brainwashed (the voters) instead of the brainwashers (the media and higher ranking GOP politicians), the worse it'll get. Because their goal is to foster deep-seeded division, which guarantees votes. The last thing they want is the average GOP voter realizing that they have common ground with the rest of the country.

Yeah he was. He's from Houston so it's not surprising. That said, I wouldn't say he was ever really a "Trump" guy and he certainly doesn't like the idea of any politician having a cult of personality. It's why he didn't like Reagan, either. The only Democrat he liked was Bill Clinton, so he's pretty traditional conservative.

Thing is, there's two kinds of "fascists"

The kind that are fascist by virtue of not actually knowing the facts and buying into the propaganda that what they're doing is right. These people legitimately either don't know what their leaders are doing, or if they do, they believe it's part of a bigger "righteous plan."
The kind that do know what's going on and actually support it. These are the real deal.

It's important to recognize that the former can be reasoned with if they are presented the facts in a way they can understand. The latter cannot. And at least in my experience, MOST GOP supporters are in the former camp - which means we need to find a way to break through the propaganda echo chamber.
Using my father as an example, he opposed gay marriage in a sort of generic, unthinking "it should be between a man and woman" way. But as soon as he realized I was serious with another girl, he wound up saying something to the effect of "it's not the government's job to tell you who you can marry". It made me realize that "conservative" is really just how you view the government's role in something, not necessarily the actual policies. There are libertarian conservatives and authoritarian conservatives, and honestly they are complete polar opposites, yet many "freedom from government" GOP voters had no problem with an authoritarian GOP president... because it's all about spin.
