What do a young loose-cannon police detective, a former street gang leader, a tenacious tabloid journalist, an introverted pharmaceutical researcher and a mysterious girl in a cat costume have in common? They're all part of 428: Shibuya Scramble, a visual novel that sorta reminded me of a bunch of Yakuza substories intertwined with one another.

Unlike most visual novels, in which you play a single protagonist and are shown static images of the anime characters you interact with, in 428 you decide the actions of multiple characters whose stories are interconnected in surprising ways and conveyed through live-action video clips and photographs. By ensuring that everyone does the right things and ends up in the right place at the right time, you will unfold an incredibly intricate narrative involving kidnapping, tense races against the clock, surprise plot twists and an all-encompassing threat to Shibuya itself. Not to mention a total of 85 bad endings for all of the characters.

This is as straight of a visual novel as it gets though. You're going to be spending your entire time reading as there's no gameplay or puzzles to speak of.

The platinum involves you completing everything the game has to offer:

• Finishing the main story and view the normal ending
• View all 85 bad endings
• View all 22 side stories
• View the True ending
• View the extra story scenarios and secret modes that I don't know how anyone figured out without just looking it up.

No idea what my actual time was. My timer says 84 hours, but I regularly would just leave at a screen and go do something else for awhile. Overall the story is pretty good, but the post-game content kinda goes on for a bit too long when I was ready to be done with it.
