Having just gone through everything but Shield of Hope over the past few months,

King of Cards > Plague of Shadows > Specter of Torment > Showdown

It has been seven years since I played Shield of Hope, but I imagine it slots 2nd or 3rd.

Spectre of Torment > King of Cards > Shovel Knight >> Plague of Shadows

I played Shovel Knight on 3DS, so I haven't played Showdown. I enjoyed all of them, but Plague of Shadows is both the least original and has imo the least fun mechanics.

For me:

Spectre > Shovel > Plague > King

Spectre has best mechanics, Shovel is pretty well-balanced, and Plague is clumsy but still kinda fun using bombs to bounce around.

King's campaign is the only one I didn't beat on NG+.

I honestly just love the original Shovel of Hope the most.

This, exactly.

King of Cards has the most substance (and the card game is pretty decent!), but Specter is simply the most fun to play. It feels so good to jump and slice around the levels as Specter Knight. Plague is the clunkiest gameplaywise but I do enjoy his hub and dialogue, and base Shovel Knight is just a good time.

It's a shame they didn't put Showdown on 3DS but this game is absurdly good value for money anyway. I bought the base game many years ago and was amazed that all the campaigns that came out since were free! Also this topic reminds me I haven't bought Pocket Dungeon yet.
