Your opinion?

I haven't watched the product in years because it was an absolute slog when I quit, but Vince (so the dirtsheets say) had final say on everything, rewrote scripts several times before shows, pushed some people, held others back etc.

Now that he's done, what say you?

I dont think it will change enormously, or even moderately at least for a few years. I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of creative stuff is still run by him

He is still calling the shots behind the scenes. He's just appointed a new figurehead to take the heat off and hide from the public in hopes they'll eventually forget what he did or not care.

Dunno yet. Commentary was a lot more relaxed last night though so that's one thing.

It's crazy. Somebody made a topic the other day asking former WWE fans what it would take to get them back. I said literally the only thing that would do it is Vince Mahon retiring. TC said that would never happen.

I can't remember who made the topic. It's purged now.

same in the short term, better over time.

it couldn't possibly get any worse.

IIRC Jon Moxley said it'd never get better until Vince retires.

I'd be stunned if it actually got better. I don't see how it can after they wrecked the hell out of it for so long.

It would take a whole literal reboot to even attempt it.

I just hope that other promotions can now rise up like the old days.

It can't just be WWF-WWE all the time or whatever.

I miss 80s and some 90s Wrasslin.

It was always on TV back in the day.

We traded him for Stephanie and Nick Khan. And Vince is still a top shareholder isn't he? Edit: To clarify he's not still the secret boss or whatever, but that's a hell of a foot in the door and some leverage right?
Technically things can get better now but the odds really aren't good.

Triple H is now head of creative, so it actually could get better. Wonder where that leaves Bruce Pritchard.

Only time will tell. I think even if he's running things from the shadows not having his control freak nature constantly around can only be a positive. So I'll say marginally better in the short term and unknown for long term. Wrestling will still have a big overexposure problem.

Hopefully it gets better, but I think the whole wrestling ship sailed for me during the pandemic.

I fell off it hard, and anytime I try to watch again now I just don't have the patience for it.

It'll absolutely get better, but how fast it'll get better and how much better it'll get is still unknown. It's also dependent on how much input Vince wants to give from the shadows and how willing Steph and Haitch are to appease him, since (as mentioned) he's still the biggest shareholder.

Have you been living under a rock the past three years? AEW is around and regularly pulling in 900k+ for Dynamite on Wednesdays, sometimes even breaking the million mark. It's obviously not at WWE's level yet, but it's way closer than TNA ever got.

Maybe slightly better, but it will never really change for the better. It will always be lame, sanitized, and relatively kiddy. WWE is still a publicly traded company and is being run by Stephanie, who was a creative head in the company for a long time. It will still be the lame and corny WWE it's been for almost 20 years now.

Yeah, but AEW is just an alternative WWE and not an alternative to WWE.

The issue with wrestling is that you can only really present it one way on television if you want it to be successful. If AEW stuck with the original planned idea of presenting it like a straightforward sport, you wouldn't get the amount of viewers who watch it purely for the hijinx.

I only watch AEW but this news about WWE will definitely make me want to tune in.

I don't think that's entirely true. Even WCW felt different compared to the WWF back in the day until they just started copying the WWF model. A sports based promotion wouldn't necessarily have be very dry and be played completely straight like it's the UFC. It would sort of be more like the old school territories. There was always showmanship and theatrics and over the top-ness in wrestling, but it was done in a relatively realistic manner to where people can still suspend their disbelief just enough without breaking. You can still have the "sports entertainment" elements without going overboard like how lots of wrestling does today. WWE and a lot AEW just slap you in the face with that's it's all fake and a show.

I don't watch any of it anymore, but mostly still follow it and watch the parts that interest me. AEW and even WWE sometimes will do some good and maybe even great wrestling, but they'll also have some embarrassing wrestling on the same show and it turns me and plenty other current or former wrestling fans off.
