The closer Netflix gets to being television/cable the more people it is going to lose. Netflix originally gained popularity because people wanted to avoid the hassle of ads and limited availability of content.

Netflix is adding ads to their paid service, which removes the point of paying for a subscription in the first place. A ton of its most appealing content has been poached by other streaming services due to streaming basically becoming Cable Television 2, and its original content is renowned for being absolute pisswater.

At this point they only have Stranger Things. They cancelled Bojack Horseman prematurely after the studio unionised, giving them four additional episodes to wrap up the rest of the show. Since then, they've fired their entire animation division. What else is worth watching on there - the dogshit Winx reboot? The Cowboy Bebop remake that got cancelled? Oh, maybe the live action Avatar: The Last Airbender show where the original showrunners left due to creative differences and not having the power to fully oversee the show.

Netflix isn't a charity, it's a service that has to justify its value with content that people want to see. At this point, the licensed shows they're developing are actively hostile to fans of the original properties, and the shows themselves aren't doing well because the word of mouth about them is negative. They're making the service worse, in the content they offer and in the addition of ads, while they jack up the price of a subscription. You're paying more money for a worse service.

So why would you pay for a service with dwindling value to you when you have other options? Hell, why would you pay more money for a worse product? You're right, Netflix isn't a charity. Why would you throw your perfectly good money away on a rapidly diminishing service that bills you more while they treat you worse? If it's out of a sense of obligation or fairness rather than out of personal value to yourself, you're the one treating it like a charity.

If they want to fuck around, let them go broke.

Netflix is trash and I canceled my sub a few months ago. Good riddance.

Cancelled my subscription a few days ago and made sure to note in the reasons that it's because of these practices.
