My ex would physically put me on the correct side and get angry when Im not on the side nearest the street, never heard of that before from my previous GF. I literally thought maybe it was a Mexican/Asian thing cause she was half Mexican half Asian so I had no idea. Eventually you learn but in the beginning it sucks being yelled at.

Id guess its cause if a car comes out of nowhere it hits the man first and the girl can perhaps get away. Only thing I can think of.

Were the sacrificial lambs.

I say let the man being on the side so he can grab the girl if needed, cause usually the girl is too short/weak to be able to grab a man. My gf was 140 lbs, and I was 215 it was basically no chance of her saving me, it was only about saving herself.

Happened again like 3 years later, but this time at night/evening and the guy goes "Is she for sale?"
We were like ...uh no? And he says something like "couldn't tell, son, because she was walking on the outside and a man should always walk in the outside blah blah women are property blah"

I actually do this with family. I recognize Im more aware of traffic than most people. Id be the one aware enough to throw my body against everyone else to push them out the way. Or, I just accidentally push everyone over in the same spot and the car runs over all our heads, crushing them like watermelons.

I think the idea is you push them as far as possible away and then you turn and punch the car to stop it in place.

I spoke to my dad about it and he was like "that one's old school, we did it in my day". He's 70 next year

The Twitter crowd can totally fuck off with this bs. If a car accident were to happen, it'd probably happen too fast to do anything about it, and it'd very likely hit both of you anyway, and even if a man were to take preventive action in the heat of the moment, it's actually better for the man to walk on the 'inner' side of the pavement, where he has a better vantage point on the road. The man walking closest to the roadside is not going to help anything, nor should whether a man does it or not be taken into account in any form of etiquette.

If anyone were to ever bring it up (I utterly refuse to believe anyone actually makes a big deal out of this irl), I would just stick to the inner side of the pavement, just to rub it in their face. If that's reason enough for them to call it quits, good.

I call upon men, women and otherwise everywhere to not take this disingenuous pavement walk crap seriously, and to instead either ignore it or openly mock it. We should not allow for enough people to be fooled by this to the point that it becomes the status quo, like some people actually believing that the ok-sign is racist somehow (which it isn't).

I saw a cctv video of two women walking alongside a road and the one closest to the cars gets hit and flung over a barrier (this was on some highway i think).
The other woman didn't even realize it till a few seconds later cuz it happened so fast and walked a couple feet more down the road.

I agree men don't HAVE to sacrifice themselves. But this pushback where men aren't even entertaining it because they're mad at some women that expect it, it's also wild.

Maybe Im just trained, but I feel protective over women as a whole just because I can afford to not be targeted as much. I don't see it as sexism when they want more protection than men. In this specific case tho, it's pretty ridiculous to expect a guy who barely knows you to just sacrifice being there for his family for the rest of his life just cause you're a woman and he's a man. For all we know, the guy is a super positive on the world and the woman is a super negative. That would mean we lost someone who would go on to inspire others for someone who will just go on to destroy whatever they come in contact with. We just can't know.

I hate thos mindstate lol. Letting pride make you be not respectful of others and not making life easier on yourself. I walk with confidence, but I have a dog and will cross the street if others are coming because it's the right thing to do. Im the person who is walking around with something others might fear. It makes sense for me to then take the responsibility of making others feel safe from me and my dog when I can. Even though my dog is a coward and a lover, they don't know that. I get respect back in the street all the time. The people who think they're bullying respect out of others are usually just being seen as a douchebag by everyone >_>
