Well, it's NYC, so her transportation options are broader. The nearest subway stop is accessible, which isn't true of all of them.

if she needs your help she'd ask for it. as a disabled person, we usually aren't offended by ignorance (we don't expect people to know our capabilities) but we do get offended by people who think we can't do anything on our own

My mom was in a wheelchair from when she was about 25 til she passed at 33. I've also worked with people with various disabilities for the past decade. Obviously everyone is different but...

Assuming she's been in the chair long-term, she's accustomed to it. The chair is a tool that increases her independence. It should enable her personal mobility, and she should not need your assistance. It could be insulting if you go beyond what you would do for anyone else in order to accommodate her without her request.

If you can tactfully ask it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to find out her opinions on the matter, but I would be concerned about setting the tone of your interactions based around how you perceive her disability. Other than being mindful of wheelchair accessible locations as others have said, it is 100% a normal date.

There is no way to know if she thinks you pushing the wheelchair is gentlemanny or an insult, so the best thing is to simply ask.

I actually didnt get the gist of his attempt at problematic humor until you spotlighted it with your post, so thanks I guess.

Definitely would have assumed he was merely talking about not eating something that would give the TC flatulence and thus would make his date awkward, but I know better now, all thanks to you.

I wouldn't bring it up. Just double check that wherever you are going is accessible. Don't push her. Just treat her like anyone else. If she brings it up, then ask polite questions about it if you are comfortable doing so.

Basically this. You may mean well but most don't like being coddled and want you to treat them like you would anyone else.

I'd bring it up immediately. Just be like, I don't really have any experience hanging out with people that are in a wheelchair, but this is your life every day so I'm going to assume whatever happens you got it handled. If there is anything you do need, just ask and then I got it.
Then I would just go about normally until she told me otherwise.

To be clear I personally don't think the standing jokes are problematic (for reference I'm partially-blind and yet still laugh at blind jokes) and it appears she is fine with them too. These jokes aren't based in stereotypes; rather it's injecting humor into the midst of an unfortunate circumstance.
