I enjoyed the Zodiac edition. Fast forward is a blessing when trying to find rare monsters in that game. Also speeding through the super bosses. Not my top FF game by any stretch, but it's not my least favorite either. Just somewhere in the middle.

The aesthetic and overworld is super cool and the combat is a blast. Unfortunately the story is a bit unfocused that it's easy to forget what you're doing, and the characters, other than Bathier (and Fran for... other reasons) are mostly forgetable.

It's the FF for people who want a non-linear game. Otherwise it is more interesting for its development politics than it is for its actual story.

Is the story actually any good? I heard it is at its core, but then because the MC is Vaan who was shoehorned in by management after the plot was already completed, it suffers for that.
