Outline makes it seem like it's about the same as XC2, only replacing new Blades with new Heroes.

Xenoblade certainly isn't going to crash the eShop any worse than Pokemon or Animal Crossing or other bigger releases did. It might take a few minutes, but that'll be it.

Assuming it's already preloaded of course.

Why? Is there a reason it would crash for this when it didn't crash for Smash or Animal Crossing?

He's just been traumatized by the Deluxe Edition.

Havent a couple of the major Switch releases caused eshop maintenance? I just dont really trust Nintendo to not have something happen anymore for games people care about. Everything pre-release for this game has been fucked so far

What do you mean everything? I haven't heard of any issues other than with the collector's edition.

Digital pre-order downloaded to the Switch a week ago, it just has to unlock.

That is everything there has been so far? They fucked it up in more than 1 region even somehow too which is quite impressive

Ooh, for anyone worried about how obtuse the battle mechanics might be, they've implemented training simulations into the tutorials that you can access any time to help figure out how things work.

BOY, if I hadn't just seen that Soul Hackers 2 stream, I'd say that's the best menu screen I've seen in a while.

I'm sure. Most negative review comments so far have been around performance. There is a day 1 patch, though.

It's not actually bothering me, it was just surprising.

Got my copy at Walmart. Seems the days of $10 off new releases for video games there is dead though sadly.

Expected to arrive today for me, standard edition tho.

I played about 3 hours last night, did everything in the first open area after the first mini hub section, stopped right after a few cutscenes that funnel into the next open area (it's still essentially the same area).

Very cutscene heavy up front, which isn't surprising. The combat feels very familiar to to two, but gone is the "heavy" feel that made the XB2 combat feel kind of unwieldy. Seems to be a lot smoother.

However the issue XB2 had with having any verticality present in combat is back in full force. Fought a couple monsters around a 4 inch tall rock slab on the ground and it was an absolute shit show, completely impossible to get around the back or sides.

I miss being able to stutterstep to reset your auto-attack faster.

Also I seem to have trouble chaining arts together. I can cancel auto attacks into arts fine, but arts into arts I cant get the timing right for.

That would've made the Agnus classes too OP compared to Keves.

But yeah, I'm not having an easy time with art canceling yet either. And Noah's auto attacks feel slower. I haven't checked to see if there's a training drill for art canceling yet, but if there is, that'd probably be good to do.

I also played a little last night and a bit more today. Some scattered thoughts:

-Quite cutscene heavy to start with as said. One cutscene after the initial battle is genuinely MGS4-level but it seems to ease off after that.

-Speaking of the cutscenes, I forgot how much of a cut above Xenoblade was compared to other JRPG series and a lot of games of any variety in terms of direction. Well-directed cutscenes are fairly rare these days so its a treat except for the REALLY long one.

-MUCH better early pacing than XC2, similar to XC1 in terms of the intro but not quite that fast.

-Looks great in handheld, XC2 fuzziness this is not.

-Visually it reminds me a lot of XCX which is a very good thing. Much more realistic lighting snd terrain textures than 2 or DE.

-The voice acting is really good so far. Definitely fuel for the 2 was a bit of a rush job fire.
