I believe new classes like that get unlocked by getting more CP, and it can take quite a while, as in it takes more CP to unlock a class than it does to master one going from 1 to 10. You probably just haven't fought enough battles for the progress to be visible yet.

Go dunk on a unique monster around your level and finish it with a chain attack to speed up the process

Consul B seems impossible to beat at Lv 25 Hard Mode.

I'm 5 hours into this game and feeling pretty good so far. Been trying to keep out of this topic to avoid even hints of spoilers. But I must say that I was SHOCKED to find out (battle spoilers for 5 hours into the game) that you could switch characters during combat! Finally some more strategy comes to these games!

I failed this at level 22 in normal mode tempted to just use my bonus xp and retry (or alternatively I guess I could switch to mastered classes, but Id rather get whatever CP he awards)

Heavily relied on healing my party thru Chain Attacks. Almost died a few times with him binding my healers (which annoyed the shit out of me so hard). Luck was definitely involved. That was rough.

I just beat him as well. Im not sure, but it kinda seemed like he might have had a reflect mechanic or something? I think I was doing something wrong while fighting him, in any case. Every once in a while he just almost murdered everyone with that purple circle attack.

Edit: Actually I looked it up and I was wrong. The actual relevant mechanic is that when he chains your healers you're apparently supposed to swap to them and button mash to free them more quickly. Probably never would have figured that one out!

It took me a bunch of retries at Level 22 but I managed to get him eventually. Probably would have been a lot simpler to use BEXP or change to mastered classes like you said but I'm stubborn.

I definitely don't have the greatest handle on the battle system yet trying to juggle when to Chain Attack, Interlink, etc.

Interlink feels like something I do if I'm desperate to survive, my controlled character's partner is close to going down, or I got it to level 3.

And yeah, Chain Attack I haven't quite yet figured out the key to getting more orders in it? For awhile I was getting 3 max but I've started to get 4 by using less people per order, so idk

I don't know if it changes later but every time you use a main party member's order it depletes the Chain Gauge by 1/3 and it ends if it empties so that's why it was 3 max.

But Hero Unit Orders don't deplete the gauge so if you work them in it can go to 4.

And yeah, I've been using Interlink as a desperation measure myself, for me or if I notice my partner member is in trouble.

Ah, "Chain Gauge", a thing I haven't noticed.

I will say that the game has issues with screen overload, particularly when it comes to the brightness of aoe zones. There are times when I can't find myself on screen.

I did a Chain Gauge last night with 4 chains + 2 Ouroborous orders that reached x1217 damage.

It was incredible.

I control the healer role and trying to break out of it didnt work at all. Took the same amount of time trying to wiggle out of than not doing anything.

I do feel like Interlink is kind of underwhelming, atleast early on. Especially the heals. I just let the CPU do Interlinks. And getting to Lv 3 takes forever.

Interlink initially is weak as hell but as you use the ability tree and unlock the additional mechanics it expands dramatically.

Interlink is giving me big Nioh 2 Yokai Shift vibes where it starts out as a form you only use as utility in niche scenarios but can end up being really strong as you gradually unlock its stuff.

The only real flaw with the interlink level system I can see is, unless there's part of this I'm missing, is it's going to heavily insentivize adding only your lowest charge time artes to your bar.

I feel like this game has the same problem XB2 did (though to a lesser extent) where the cutscenes are just too slow. People talk unnaturally slowly, and there are lots of needless pauses while they speak too. It's better with the Japanese voices, but still not really ideal. It'd be nice if the dialogue were sped up, or if you could just manually advance it.

I feel the opposite. The cutscenes feel "real" to me, I guess. Like realistic. I like to think the characters pause cause they're thinking before they speak.

I'm just swapping classes whenever someone reaches rank 10 (sometimes holding off a bit if it would screw up my party composition)

Oh I've leveled up a bunch of different classes, too. This is just my plan for when I progress the main story and other sidequests.

Same. Still in Chapter 3 myself. Each character has only gotten 3 classes to Lv 10 each.

A heads up if you're approaching ether cap, most only give 3 charges, but some randomly give you up to 10. Wouldn't recommend grabbing a fountain unless you're at 89 or under.

Also it doesn't tell you when you've reached Nopon Coin cap from what I can see, so keep an eye on that!

It does. It starts showing them being auto sold

Ah, didn't realize you COULD sell them. I'd rather it just stay on the field and not let you pick it up.

Once you get access to the enormous desert area, there's a cave right around the middle of it you can go through to get to the merchant. That's the only one so far I've found, they sell some pretty powerful accessories at the higher costs. 99 gold coins, which I'm getting close to, nets you an accessory that let's the equipee revive people even if they're not a healer.

Ether fountains restore over time so it doesn't matter

That seems kind of underpowered for 99 gold coins. I'd rather get a max cost gem then that. Maybe if you wanted to run a team with no healers on it it could be useful though

I haven't actually tried it but under gems there's always two options one for crafting and one for with coins. I assumed they were gold coins

Yeah you can purchase gems with gold nopon coins. They're very pricey though.

Ohhh right, I haven't used Nopon coins for alternative methods so didn't think about it.

game finally came in last night and beated chapter 1

What's the best Gem to buy once you do get to 99 Gold Nopon Coins?

I would guess Empowered Combo. That's a gem you want on any attacking class along with Steelcleaver and Analyze Weakness

Does the AI make good use of Empowered Combo?

It might be meant to be like it is? Only follow for a short distance, then have to find the next set based on trajectory?

I guess the easiest way to check would be to refight a UM and see if you get more coins.
