I don't feel like you have a choice, being in an extremely marginalized group with a lived experience that just doesn't make sense to a lot of people.

I could see why it feels way worse when it's paired with being rejected by so much of the ignorance in America. But, I think most people hate when people ignore their complexity and box them into one thing. There's plenty of room for choice, and I know from experience. There's people on here who STILL don't know that i'm trans, for example, because it's not the main thing I talk about.

I briefly worked with this extremely funny, extremely tiny lady. We were closing together one night, probably the first time we had spent much time together, and I noticed she had a nasty cough, and I expressed concern about it, and she stated, matter-of-factly, "Oh, it's fine. I just have cystic fibrosis." I remember saying she could go on some one's trip, since she could fit in a large suitecase, and she responded, "The only way I would be getting into a suitcase is if I'm dead!" She would always say, "Aw EV, you're such a gem!"

She got fired for attendance. I always promised her we would hang out, but then she moved out to Oregon. When I was planning on visiting my best friend out there after they had moved out there, I discovered she lived near them, and reached out to her. She was excited about seeing me and told me to let her know when I had firmed up my plans. She ended by telling me I was such a gem.

When I reached out to her with my plans, I received no response. The message went unread. I finally checked her profile, and discovered she had passed away from pneumonia.
And so I sent her one last message, "Sorry X, guess we'll have to wait to hang out until the next life."

I want people to know I'm trans though. People need to fucking see us, to be confronted with our humanity. As long as we're just some weird boogey(wo)man, it's much easier for cis people to look the other way when faced with our persecution.

I do hope that you realize that you're probably hurting our cause more than helping it when you're flaunting it around, though. When you make it your only trait, it makes people forget that there's more to you than just the one thing.

No, i'm sorry for you. I've been out of the closet for nine years and have been living as myself for eight of them; I have enough wisdom to know that treating being trans as identity itself isn't a good thing. Advocating for yourself is a good thing (and I do the same), but you send the wrong idea by doing things like this.

Woah. That was pretty feel good until the end. Luckily mines not that bad. I actually just survived Covid with it. So, I feel really good about that not taking me out when paired with the CF. It didn't even really give me much lung hassle at all

It's funny you mention that, my girlfriend told me something similar about her daughter. Yes, you triggered another story.

Basically, she almost died giving birth to her daughter, then she developed a mast cell disorder just as the pandemic was starting. It quickly spiraled out of control: she lost a ton of weight, her white cell counts crashed into the floor, and she felt so tired she could barely got out of bed. She couldn't even think straight half the time: she would even forget who her roommates were. Her immunologist told her a cold would probably kill her. Everyone thought she was going to die, herself included.

At the time, she only had her daughter on weekends so her daughter could go to school in baby daddy's district, but then he checked himself into rehab, and her daughter became her full time responsibility. And she told me that that's why she survived: her daughter needed her. Her daughter didn't have anyone else, so she forced herself to do as much as possible. Her daughter now goes to school virtually and basically lives with her full time.

She's doing 1,000 times better these days, and her condition is now believed to be chronic but manageable. She's put on some weight though not nearly all of it: her diet is severely restricted. She misses her ass the most and is one of the smartest people I've ever met.

And she thinks I'm the strong, resilient one. Don't know where she gets that idea. She must be a lying flatterer.

It's hard to put yourself in perspective. But she might of very well picked up some inspiration from you in her weakest moments. You should tell her she owes you money for that. Get her for all she's worth. Neh. That's really freakin awesome tho. Im a strong believer in willpower giving us physical resilience.

Basically, they're fucking terrifying and Pokemon needs to do a fossil mon based on them yesterday.

I don't understand why there's so many topics like this either, but obviously people are bored and need their attention and talking about video games just doesn't do it for people anymore.

It's like if I had a giant wart/growth on my ass that kept coming back and every week I made a topic about the procedure to remove it. It's just seems so passive aggressive to try to force people to care about that. Like my ass wart will always take priority of importance to whatever is going on in everybody's else's lives because they don't have an ass wart and will never understand the pain in having one so whatever they have going on is belittled and meager in comparison or how tc puts it "boring"

I was implying Odessa had a high teen pregnancy rate with that comment (which is true, higher than national average look it up). I misworded it and people thought I was talking about all Latinas even though the topic was about Odessa.

Indeed. Respectability politics are what got us here, after all. Its safe to say its not an effective approach.

Not long after leaving the closet behind for good, I read Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls by Mona Eltahawy. I want to be like her when I grow up. I had set it aside for just that purpose. I had always been a girl, of course, but I had never existed as one, and that book was very instructive.

One argument Mona makes is that men are allowed and expected to command attention and that women as well as trans women and men are expected to be quiet and are attacked for drawing attention to themselves. This makes it easier to ignore us and it makes it easier to discriminate against us. And, IMO, in our case, it allows anti-trans bigots to define who and what we are, which isnt something we should ever assent to. Im a trans woman, Im imminently clockable, I cant hide that. But Im also immensely privileged, so I feel I owe it to everyone who cant safely speak up to speak up.
