His character was done better in every other thing we saw him in, besides his own movie. He is ACCIDENTALLY overshadowed by Killmonger , and purposefully overshadowed by everyone else in the cast.

T'Challa is up there brains department normally, but his Sister out classes him.

It's true, he was one of the best parts of Civil War but I can't remember much of him in Black Panther itself.

Ok, he had 0 dialogue in endgame and was about to be crushed by thanos before wanda saved him and then crushed by ebony maw before spiderman saved him. Then he showed up to tony starks funeral...a guy he exchanged 0 dialogue with

Hell even in infinity war he just gave bucky an arm, steve some hand shields and got dusted. So again not better there.

The intention was probably to make him a charismatic leader who can hold his own similar to Captain America.

If you've got the leader who is the best at fighting and is also the most intelligent person in the room then you aren't really opening up very many interesting dynamics.

Killmonger carried that entire movie. T'Challa was a cardboard cutout for most of it and has basically zero character development. He was much better in Civil War and was probably the best part of that movie so it was a noticable step back.

I have a hard time understanding how he was "ACCIDENTALLY" overshadowed by Killmonger, and Ive heard that exact statement a few times on here. Tchalla getting shit on and thrown off a cliff wasn't exactly an ad-lib. All the time spent on Killmonger was crafted.

A common problem for Batman movies heh.

Tbh I'm fine if the villain does the heavy lifting for that. Especially in Marvel movies where the villain is often pretty lacking.

Well, hes not a hero so much as his is a King and you learn about him through how people interact with him. This is intentional and nuanced. Theres a reason this film made like a billion dollars. The fan base appreciated the film not talking down to them. Killmonger is actually the dark hero in the tragic Greek sense and not many people get that.

Black Panther is probably my favorite MCU movie, and while I agree that T'Challa's character took a little of a step back compared to Civil War, it was to let both the supporting cast and Wakanda to shine.

he still experienced a good full character arc, though, and because of Killmonger, he received some good character development.

I think that the film execs and everyone involved took for granted that Chadwick Boseman would always be around, so a good amount of focus was given to the supporting cast, especially Killmonger. but with that said, still a great movie and a great showing for Boseman.

Killmonger did carry the Black Panther movie and that's why I consider it very good because rarely in MCU films do we even get good villains. But T'Challa did get a somewhat character development in his own movie, he realized how flawed the old ways of being segregated from the rest of the world ends up creating monsters like Killmonger and tries to right the wrongs of his ancestors.

Andy Serkis is legendary in general, but his Klaue was the very definition of a throwaway MCU villain that gets forgotten. Michael B Jordan absolutely gave it his A-Game in the movie and at least I can see why Killmonger ended up the way he did.

Killing off Klaue sucked, cause Andy Serkis would nail the ever loving shit out of his living sound form if we got to that point. Take his already hammy performance (he's a fuckin' soundcloud rapper lmao) and turn him into living sound? Would be gold.

Yeah, they did him dirty, and the fact that he made the role so memorable is why he's awesome. Killmonger was also a 1-movie throwaway but not nearly as interesting.

Not really, in comparison to most throwaway MCU villains, Killmonger is still talked about to this day. With that said, getting CGI Klaue either has him being total energy or having his megaman cannon arm thing would absolutely be a plus.

Black Panther is a movie that I loved conceptually more than I enjoyed it as a movie, if that makes any sense (I feel similarly about Captain America Civil War). I love Wakanda. I love the lore. I love the concept behind this extremely advanced society in Africa that kept its culture alive while also being way ahead of everyone else scientifically. I even like T'Challa as a character.

But the movie itself just didn't really do much for me, and I honestly don't know why. I kinda agree with @cjsdowg that T'Challa seems to not be handled correctly, especially given the gravity of the situation he's in.

Yeah I have no idea what the people in this topic are even saying. I liked tchalla and enjoyed him in this movie. While I loved being blown away by BP's appearance in Civil War (having stayed away from spoilers) I liked him here too especially his relationship with his father and the familial relationship overall.

I liked the movie in general. What I really liked is the opening scene, with Njobu, something about the actor just spoke to me and this was one of my favorite intro scenes of all time in Marvel. The last great Marvel movie before the disappointment that followed with mr. "herp-a-derp I want to make da world half" (as if that was anything)

Yeah I don't like michael b jordan and didn't really care for kilmonger at all. Don't see what the fascination with him was. Story wise I definitely like that kinda character, movie being like a reverse lion king or something. But the character himself and the actor are both super annoying and eyeroll worthy. Not in the good hammy way of the other one-off marvel villains. I think the moment they try to make their characters serious or even attempt at nuance in these movies it falls flat on their face and is extremely cringey to me. But based on the responses it seems people seem to like this faux character development of villains even though it does nothing for me.
