I have been using Methylphenidate (Ritalin) for about 2 months for my recently diagnosed ADHD and haven't seen much change regarding my focus and concentration. Went from 10 mg twice a day and then finally up to 20mg x2. I'm being prescribed 10mg 3 times a day so I guess I'll see if it changes me much.

Adderall may cause shrinkage.

What was your experience with it? I took it about an hour ago and not sure if I feel much yet...

That was my first thought too when I got prescribed lol. South Park is the best, at least up to about season 12 or so.

How old are you? What led to you getting prescribed? Also 10mg X 3 a day sounds like a lot. You could probably do 2 a day and then start a side hustle.

30. My sister talked about having it and I never really even considered it until reading the ADHD subreddits and relating to them so much. I talked with my therapist and he gave me a test which lead me to seeing this doctor. But I've always struggled with forgetfulness and being super easily distracted. He said I might only need to dose two times but to see how I feel after that. I am currently running a small business and this is our busiest season and I felt like I need all the help I can get. But in the past I was always too afraid to ask for help.

I just need to find a ADD medication that doesn't make me feel like a Zombie. Like... I'm focused, but I don't really have the motivation to do anything.

Good luck! I tried it around 23 and found it helped, but I have an addictive personality and family history of alcoholism so I was worried about dependency/addiction. Im 29 now wanting to try it again but am still having doubts that I even have ADHD. Its a tough battle for sure.

They started me on Adderall almost two years ago. It changed my life. I take 30 mg XR Monday through Friday. Occasionally Saturday if I have to be focused.

I was one of those that teachers asked questions about but my parents were all "nah, he's just lazy."

Very first time I took it I could tell I was on something. But after that I haven't had any side effects.

Thank you! In what ways did it help the most? I might have a bit of an addictive personality too, whether it be video games or weed or more recently probably drinking too much. I wouldn't consider myself an alcoholic but I tended to rely on it too much on it the past few years in social situations. The good thing is that have not had a drink since I've started taking medication almost 2 months ago. I do wish that I had access to this in my early college years, I might not have flunked out. But I guess I can't say that for sure.

It can be a lifesaver, its not something I can use due to past addictions and lifestyles, but its a lifesaver for some.

As I always say to any person I come across who ends up taking amphetamines, prescribed or illegally, just be careful if you ever start to feel dependent or urges to take more

I tried Adderall earlier this year, in two stints. Initially it helped me with motivation issues(the best I can explain the initial feeling was when Harry Potter took the luck potion), but slowly it made my behavior get worse(over a couple weeks). It was harder to get motivated, I was incredibly irritated all the time at the smallest thing. Eventually I stopped because I had what I felt were thoughts leading to suicidal thoughts.

I talked to my doctor about it and he said my body quickly became addicted and was craving more. That this was what was causing all of this. It was so bad that I didn't feel right taking any other medication.

i was given adderall when i was a kid up until i was around 20 or so and a doctor ended up talking me out of continuing to get it perscribed. ever since then i've been in a situation where i'm semi-coping with my ADHD symptoms to a point where i can function well enough but still have focus problems that get in the way of stuff. I kind of want to try it again but I have no idea how to go about convincing a doctor to prescribe it to me now that I'm an adult

I wont say it was gateway to the worst years of addiction in my life I am surprised I lived through, I made plenty of stupid decisions on my own, but the cliche exaggerated info about quick addiction is 150% true

not trying to scare you TC, like I said when it comes to medication for mental issues of any type, its a long process of finding what works for you, and this could possibly be it!

If you ever need anything you can pm me

FWIW you are ahead of me! I only seriously started considering the possibility that I had ADD a decade later than you - so many behaviors of mine seem to fall into place. I'm also in the process of finding the best medication - the Adderall I'm on now has definitely kept me more alert and helped me switch from one unappealing task to the next without needing as big a "break", but my distractibility and focus(keeping attention even without distractions) are still poor.

Never take more than what's prescribed. You risk becoming a drug addict.
