I remember loving it in high school, but I haven't watched it since then and now I'm a grown bitter working adult and I've been removed from the high school environment for well over a decade >_> So idk how much I can relate to it now lol

Kinda sucks that the official DVD for the series didn't come out until like 10 years after the series concluded, and then it had to cut all the licensed music, which really affected the tones of the episodes. Plus they only provided the censored version of the finale movie for some reason. Good thing there's...other options to restore the music and the uncensored movie >____>

I got the whole series on DVD a few years back. I enjoyed it well enough.

She'd so far over her pessimistic phase and be a truly good person by now.

And obviously it was before MySpace and social media in general were even a thing, but I do remember them using IM messenger in some episodes, which were in line with my high school experience >_>

They announced they were making a Jodie spinoff a couple years ago. It's supposed to be an animated movie that took place after Jodie graduated college and would be about her struggles trying to find her place in the modern workforce. But there hasn't been any news about it in a while

I have zero faith that modern MTV will be able to do it justice >_> Plus Jodie seems like she'd be kinda boring as a focal character: she's basically just a smarter and more socially-adept Daria. I remember her basically being a foil for all the crazy characters in the show lol. idk how well the show would be with just the focus on her

The musical episode is still one of my favorites

i didn't notice... i'm not sure i've ever seen it with the original music. i didn't discover it until a couple years after it ended.

Probably not. Back in the late 90s, they didn't hash out the licensing contracts to account for entire shows to come to DVD like they would years later. Hence why the show was in DVD purgatory for so long until they just said fuck it and ripped it all out.

If only there was some kind of Daria Restoration Project that reembeded all the original music back in

same lol. I didn't watch Daria until the mid-00s when it was already off the air. Youtube back in the day had tons of pirated TV shows in it (...in 3 parts that were 9 minutes long each >_>). That's how I watched the whole series lol

I didn't watch it when it was on air, but I marathoned the show eventually, its a good show.

that was kind of the point
the series did show that the popular kids just werent inherently jerks even if they could be a bit insensitive at times but rather daria was a loner because she was the jerk most of the time
her other classmates couldnt really relate to her and she didnt even try to relate to them.

there was a therapy session where daria reveals why she acts the way she does and she lists all her family members worst traits im paraphrasing here but the quote mostly goes

dad is ashamed because he isnt as driven as mom
and mom acts ashamed that she works so hard to cover up the fact that she wants to work so hard
and quinn uses superficiality as a suit of armor because she is afraid of looking inward and finding nothing
and im so afraid people wont like me that i actively work to make them dislike in before they have a chance to not like me on their own

For most people, you get through high school and maybe college and then those interactions just don't matter. The rest of your life is mostly work and home. Most other things are inconsequential.

but it was still the series finale and shouldnt be excluded

She's just anti-social. They go over it a bit in one of the last episodes iirc, but I forget the details
