also this video wasnt very emotional. Heartfelt maybe, but I wouldnt say it looked very emotional. I saw more of a laugh/chuckle during the second question than I did of any kind of sad cracking/breaking

There's nothing wrong with apologizing for something you did wrong. And since the incident was so public and he's "Will Smith," an equally public apology is kind of necessary. Is it sincere? none of us will ever really know that but it doesn't matter since we weren't really the ones he offended. Chris is the only one who's opinion on this really matters.

I think his last point is the one that is the most real and telling. Speaks a lot to his own trauma growing up and how that kind of shit stays with you potentially for life.

Apology seems aggressive imo. "Come over here and let's talk". Like he's still prioritizing this tough guy attitude over what he did and doesn't truly think it's a big deal.

That's almost exactly why people cared, 'cause it feels like a stupid PR stunt by some hardly relevant celebrity trying to stay relevant, but it was some still famous and in plenty of movies actor going up and doing it because of how fucking whipped he is. And then he got an award less than half an hour later and apologized to everyone in the room BUT the person he slapped, you couldn't make this up.

I definitely didn't read into it like you did. I also haven't cared about Will Smiths career in the last 10+ years. So the "fanboy" accusations are a giant swing and a miss.
