I could. The game I couldn't play without a damn guide was Suikoden 4. I took a break from it for a month and didn't have a clue where I needed to go next.

You can, but you won't figure out most of the endgame side quests.

The game does a poor job leading you to 600 AD and prehistory at the appropriate times, but those issues can be solved by just trying different things. It's not like a damn NES RPG or one of those games where there's a pseudo-3D maze.

Thats why you call the game help hotline number that can be easily found in the games instruction manual that comes with your cartridge.

Iirc as soon as you enter the prehistory gate you're tossed right into that part of the story. It's not even an immediately necessary quest so the player has a decent amount of time to stumble into it.

I forget the details of returning to 600, though. Don't you accidentally pop up in the mystic village where the game pretty much tells you "Go fight Magus"?

This, including myself and a number of people I knew back in school.

i literally finished CT at 13 y/o with only basic English knowledge.

You know what people used to do when they got stuck in games?
They walked around everywhere on the map to see if they missed something, checked every village if anything had changed, talked to everybody, etc.

Well, I did and I had a shitload of fun. Chrono Trigger is as close to perfection as a game can get.

I started this game again the other day. I can't understand how it stands next to stuff like Earthbound and FF6. I just don't see what others see :/. Ive tried so many times and just never feel impressed. I don't know what Im missing.

you most certainly can.

the problem is time. i don't have fucking time wandering around for hours on end trying every little thing until i see 1% of progress when there are 1000+ other games out there waiting on top of regular life commitments.

You would have to be an absolute moron to need a guide to progress through Chrono trigger, countless amounts of kids including myself were able to do so just fine back in the day.

EarthBound's battle system is no more advanced than Dragon Quest's from nine years prior. And Final Fantasy VI falls to shit soon after the World of Ruin starts.

Huh? Chrono Trigger is one of the shortest RPGs out there. You can easily beat it in less than 20 hours. Unless you just have to do NG+ and get every single ending or something.

I'm pretty sure I did just fine.

oh shit, i remember i had to use a guidebook for locating a stone piece.
turna out a farmer hold it, I've been checking all dungeons and treasure chests and I can't find it.

Disagree with both those things. Which is fine. The whole reason Im here is to discuss different tastes. All 3 games have earned cult-mainstream success. So, I wouldn't call any of them bad games even if I don't get it. Chrono Trigger felt like a 7/10 to me. Just doesn't give me what the other 2 do.

I had no problem doing it

I played it (for the first time, blind) a few years back. I completed it (non-100%) without looking at a guide, then looked up a guide to find the sidequests I missed. I definitely would never have found some of them without the guide.

I completed it 100 percent without a guide as a kid. I just explored everywhere. It's not that big of a game.

For sure.

I played DW 7 for the first time a couple years ago. Even with a guide it took me 150 hours.

I never would have been able to finish it without one.

I played it just fine without a guide, there are tons of npcs that telll you where to go

there's even 1 single guy in a very obvious location that tells you about all the sidequests I dunno what more you want

yeah i played it again about 5 years ago and was shocked it was only like, 20 hours, doing all the side quests.

Thought of another one. The original Final Fantasy 12s Zodiac Spear. Don't open these specific 3 chests throughout the entire game and then I believe it was pick between these 12 chests or pots to get it. It was made a lot easier in versions that followed.

When I played chrono trigger I checked out after getting thrown to the future. What am I doing here? Why am I supposed to care about any of this? Who's this robot dude? The only reason I was going where and doing what I was, was that it was the only option. There was no "ah of course, the factory!". It was just the only place I could go so. Checked out.

beat it in like 97 in the third grade on a blockbuster rental w/o a guide

wasnt a hard game. breath of fire 2 on the other hand was incredibly difficult for me because the translation sucked ass

NPCs dialogue usually gives you hints on what you are supposed to be doing

Pretty sure I did well enough with it so it seems silly to say it's "impossible" especially when other games have been beaten with less direction that CT gave.

Use Maya's charm ability to get Speed Tabs from enemies. Pull a Sonic on all the enemies after maxing out Speed.

There you go, I just saved you the time spent reading a guide.
