If so, how are your meds treating you, and how is your quality of life?

That sucks. Do your meds have a lot of side effects?

I've been taking Carbamazapine (Tegretol) to control my seizures for 30+ years. I've had no noticeable side effects from the meds, my seizures are completely under control so long as I keep taking the pills and the yearly lab work shows that it hasn't affected my liver.

Did you get tests done to determine which meds to get? My neurologist just gave me one saying most people tolerate it well, and isn't interested in doing more tests because he thinks it works well enough (it's maybe better than nothing depending on the day, but it doesn't actually work well).

I used to have grand mal seizures, but havent had one in 5+ years. I think my meds (Vimpat and Trileptal) make me a bit drowsy, but other than that Im fine :3

They did a few tests to try and figure out the cause of the seizures. EEG and an MRI but they didn't get any answers as to why. As far as the pills go, I was 12 or 13 so I don't know the details of why they chose that particular one. That was a conversation they had with my mother. But the first thing we tried worked and didn't cause any other issues.

If what you're taking doesn't actually work and your doctor doesn't want to do anything about it, you might want to talk to another doctor. But really, it's probably just trial and error. I believe the only way to test if a particular medication is going to work for you is to just try it for awhile and see what happens. Sort of like anti-depression meds.

Same here. I had multiple tests that provided no useful information, so it was just trial and error. I mustve gone through well over a dozen medications before arriving at the winning combination lol.
