Pretty bog standard Mario plot and Super Paper Mario already kinda did it better. I do give it credit for the swerve at the end where Peach turns them both down and goes off on her own. Might be her best moment ever.

5; great ending in general, but platformers can in fact have non-perfunctory narratives that still fit with their flow the whole way through.

5.5/10. It's fine. I kinda didn't like the ending, though I can appreciate that they're trying to do something different. Mario trying to be romantic at the wrong time just was really odd. Peach being angry about that is fine, but attempting to strand him on the moon seemed like an overreaction.

6/10. Slightly better rating here as I think this is exactly what a plot for a somewhat more narrative-led Mario game should be. Not excessive and goofy like Sunshine or all to the side like Galaxy.
