GBA 1 ruins the balance and is way too easy. Original MP system better
GBA 2 actually makes good improvements to the system

So it was just hit yourself until you are nearly dead then
Increase your HP, attack and defense
And IIRC I used one of the characters to heal and it increased the magic damage(?) and mana for that

But it's been...I dunon...16 years since I last played it? maybe more?
My VBA save file shows Last Modified as 2006 :/
