For me, it's probably the La-Mulana 1 Hell Temple. it's 40 screens of bullshit, unfair puzzles, and one mistake sends you back like 5 rooms.

One of the worst rooms: <img src="https://img.youtube.com/vi/qd7fssXn_h4/0.jpg">

Chocobo Catcher still takes the cake after all these years. Janky, miserable, hair-pullingly frustrating minigame that demanded perfection to unlock the main character's ultimate weapon.

I only hated Lightning Dodging more on a personal level because that kind of high-focus endurance test is my Achille's heel; but unlike Chocobo Catcher, I wouldn't go so far as to say Dodging was badly designed.

Are we talking only about intended challenges by the game developers, like if not a main part of the game then a sidequest at least, or can this include made-up challenges by players like a 3-heart Zelda run or something like that

I recently decided it was a good idea to go for red dead redemption 2's platinum trophy.

One of the requirements for this is to beat all 90 challenges in the single player. (10 for horseman, 10 for the hunting one, 10 for marksmanship and so on).

This one gambler challenge was stupid as hell. It required you to win 3 rounds of blackjack after hitting 3 times, =/ Even if you finally manage to land like say a 19 or 20, the blackjack dealer A.I. has the amazing ability to hit 21 in this situation just to piss you off. Its some of the worse RNG I bothered messing around with. (And this is coming from someone who managed to get the platinum trophy in both monster hunter world and iceborne, which required you to get RNG monster crown large and small sizes).

Preferentially dev-intended stuff, but challenge runs are definitely up there too. I think challenge runs can get really wild, stuff like the Super Metroid reverse boss order run is pretty wild, although I've never tried it.

Lightning Dodging in FFX before I discovered the crater trick. It's still bullshit with it because it's boring as fuck and it's really only to get a weapon for a character you wont even end up using anyway...So on every playthrough I do now I only do it to get those stat spheres lol

At some point if I get to it New Vegas Hardcore mode but actually going through the DLCs this round.

Because base New Vegas with Hardcore mode makes it more or less not worth having your companions since they can die and all, and having to walk slow if you decide to loot shit sucks. But I managed to beat it around the launch of the game.

The fucking DLC is going to suck given Dead Money

Ah yeah, for something less RNG'y, me and a lot of others thought this one arena fight in ratchet and clank rift apart was dumb on the hardest difficulty. Its the one where you have nothing but the shotgun against all those rocket pack goons.......doing this on the first playthrough (while everything else in the game at that point was completely doable on the hardest difficulty) was pretty wild.

Its not the hardest I ever did though since NES era stuff got nuts, but its still something that comes to mind right away.

Getting a three star gold wheel in Mario Kart Wii. By satan, that was one of the most hardest things I ever did.

In order to get a three star ranking, you have to not only win the race, but stay in first pretty much the whole race, don't run into any obstacles, and don't drive offroad. That was a time when blue shells were at its worst and might be the most angry I've ever been at a video game.

I never even bother with no death or no hit challenges. I do not remotely have the patience / mental stamina for it.

Last challenge like that I actually completed was that one Hollow Knight sidequest where you have to carry a flower or something from one end of the map to the other without taking a single hit. I planned out my route, cleared all the enemies beforehand, took my time, and I still fucking choked right at the finish line with one bad jump onto some spikes. Thankfully I succeeded on the second attempt, but boy did I want to give the quest-giver good throttling for bitching at me out over failing the first time.

Hunting grounds in horizon forbidden west which forces you to play with the worst setups and weapons in the game while having to play in the contrived scenario on each mission.

I did it for the platinum trophy which quickly reminded me why I don't play for all the trophies in any game. My one and only platinum never again.

Otherwise I'd say the chocobo minigame in FFX because I broke my controller playing it.

And haven't seen you in years warlock, how you been?

heh, yeah, those were quite horrifying. And you just can't not do it. You want them weapons fully powered.

32 heat run in hades probably? which honestly was not even that bad it only took a few days of on-and-off attempts. I'm not even inclined to describe it as bullshit, just difficult. Either that or the final ascension(??) tier in one step from eden, which makes you start with 1 max hp (usually 600+)

I really thought I'd be able to come up with something better since I totally like difficult games but I think within any individual game I tend to not do too many of the weird bonus challenge stuff. I dunno a lot of the time they just don't seem particularly interesting to me

I looked it up to refresh my memory, and apparently the only restrictions are 1) no damage, and 2) the obvious contrivance of not being able to fast-travel via Stagways or Dreamgate (Trams are apparently okay, though I don't remember any of those being at a beneficial location).

Even though it's more time-consuming, it's much less of a headache to plan a route and clear out all the enemies between the two points; if you refrain from resting at a bench, only the minor and easily-avoidable enemies will respawn, so at least you only have to worry about spike traps.

in the remastered Kingdom Hearts there was this weird thing where you had to stop an enemy and then get 100 hits or something before time runs out
apparently it would have been easier if I'd picked something different at the beginning of the game, but that shit took me over 3 hours iirc
mind-numbingly frustrating

Yazuka 3 - Answer X Answer.

Sure, I don't know Japanese fluently but the way the computer locked into answers, it was ridiculous. The questions wouldn't even be fully written out yet and the computer would lock in and instantly get a question right. I literally had to get this by locking in without seeing any part of the questions and take a wild guess on multiple choice.

Hard? No. Bullshit? Yep.

I'm playing through FFX for the first time right now. I got through the thunder plains and I plan on going back later to do the lightning dodging. I practiced a bit my first way through and honestly it didn't seem that bad except I always seem to get hit after a random battle so I guess I'm going to come back when I can avoid battles and see how hard it really is, from my limited experience it just seems the difficulty comes from keeping concentration for so long

TWICE, and one of them basically requires the use of outside help (spoon trick, etc.) to accomplish. Definitely up there with Canary Mary, another Rare favorite.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

As someone who did this and Foxiest of the Hounds, it legitimately doesn't feel like the game intended for it to be played in those ways due to how many glitches (both that you need to abuse or that can accidentally happen to ruin your run) can happen, and just how much the game fights you to do these runs. Mankind Divided was at least fixed in this regard, rewarded clever play, and was overall a much shorter experience to boot, but I still wouldn't recommended doing pacifist or no alarms on these games to anyone.

I've beaten every Halo through 4 on legendary except 2, and each one had moments of severe BS, usually whenever the Flood are involved.
