Part of it probably has to do with "Brand Identity".

You can easily tell a PS controller by the Analog Stick position.

Same with a MS controller.

Nintendo is the only one without it's own identity since it has changed layouts so many times over the course of it's history.

That's why I want Nintendo to use the WiiU Pro Controller layout in the future:

This would give Nintendo their own "Controller Identity" that is seperate from Sony & Nintendo.

I don't know if its the best controller of all time, but to me its the best overall design for a controller.

Nah its dpad sucks ass imo.

I prefer ps controller stick placement for claw gripping. Especially for games that requires use of d pads and analog sticks at the same time. I could never get the hang of claw grip with Xbox controllers but I'm sure some people find it easier on them

I have that 360 controller with the "flippy" dpad, and it's awesome.

D-pad is unusable on the 360 controller.

PS4 all-time imo but if playing on a PC then it's a XB1 simply due to compatibility

I've always preferred it because I can stretch my thumb more comfortably for most gameplay, but at the end of the day it's not a huge difference either way to me

DS4 is my favorite so far, though note that I haven't used a DS5.

I've also used all previous Playstation controllers, all Xbox controllers other than XB1 (including both variations of the OG Xbox controller), the Sega Master System controller (lol), and a few generic cheapo ones.

The Xbox ones would be better if they'd just put the dpad and stick the right way around. In every other way, I find them superior to the PS ones, but I really don't care for that layout. EDIT: Oh, that and the fact that rechargable batteries cost extra, but that's far less of a dealbreaker since it just requires an extra accessory rather than being outright unfixable.

PC gaming is dead for everything this isn't a top-down sim or a RTS

those will forever be way better with kb + mouse

Love it ands its beyond easy to keep it clean and customized

Elite Series 2 is the best. It fits well my hands and all the weird "gimmicks" are actually really useful (adjustable trigger sensors, changeable thumb sticks, and hair trigger back buttons). I have heard the controller has a fairly high defect rate though. Never had a problem with mine though besides the A button not working if it is really lightly pressed. This never caused an issue for me in actual gameplay though.

Wii U pro was pretty good

I love the WiiU pro controller and use it exclusively when i play the switch.

It is super light
It has great button mapping and hand feel
Vibration in it is strong and responsive
Battery lasts like 60 hours without a charge

What did you hate about it? (Besides the garbage d-pad of course)

360 is definitely the comfiest controller I've tried. It just melted in my hands. D-Pad was really the only flaw. I guess some people didn't like the clicky bumpers but they never bothered me at the time. Haven't tried any of the newer Xbox controllers.

DS4 is quite nice and better than the DS3 in every way.

I've never liked the 360 Arrangement for Analog Stick & D-Pad.

I prefer Symmetric Analog Stick Positions.
Doesn't really matter if they're on the bottom or top.
I'm fine with either as I can just as easly use the WiiU Pro controller:
