I've been playing a lot of NES games lately. Batman, A Boy and his Blob, Little Nemo - the cities feature bright red brick buildings, deep black or blue night backgrounds, and sparkling bright buildings in the night background.

Even old shows like TMNT, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, or Sesame Street - the style and color of the buildings, you can just tell it's New York.

Does anyone else feel this way? The shift from NY focuses stories to more California focused stories feels like media has lost so much culture and diversity. I dunno, maybe it's just nostalgia...

I remember San Francisco kinda had a thing going in the 80s/90s

New York City, and in particular Manhatten, will always do its thing. ~It's its own thing.
It is not a town based on nostalgia. NYC always moves forward.

I will agree though, I much prefect and East Coast sound over a West Coast sound, in most cases.

The whole world's kind of a shithole, right now, and we've done it to ourselves. I think I'd rather get yelled at by a crazy guy wearing a mask on the subway than a crazy guy waving a Trump flag on a golf course. But that'd take some $$$$.

New games and movies with realistic cities are either full of bland-ish LA white/blue hues or China artificial black/neon. For example, the fight scenes in Shang-Chi that happen in China are all in this metropolis that's purposefully built, not a metropolis that's raised itself over 300 years:

Honestly? I can respect that. It's better to always look forward than to dwell on the old days.

Oh ya. New York always moves forward. It can't be considered a nostalgic town perse.
It will always have its romantic side, but it doesn't stay the same the way say Boston does.
Just look at Billionaires row.

Because, modern media shifted to Vancouver pretending to be "New York", "Los Angeles", or "Chicago" about thirty years ago.

I suppose that's what happens when you drive a city's living cost so freakin' high that the only people who can reasonably live there are bankers.

Ironically 9/11 brought NYC back.
It was never going anywhere, but it did spark a renaissance.

But I think over the years it just got used too much and became cliche.
