Langya henipavirus (LayV), also known as Langya virus, is a species of henipavirus first detected in the Chinese provinces of Shandong and Henan. It has been announced in 35 patients from 2018 to August 2022. All but 9 of the 35 cases in China were infected with LayV only, with symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and coughing. No deaths have been reported due to LayV so far. Langya henipavirus affects humans as well as other animals species, including shrews - its presumed original host. The 35 cases were not in contact with each other, and it is not yet known if the virus is capable of human-to-human transmission.

It says early contact tracing of the 35 people infected, no one had family or contacts that caught it from them, so maybe this time it's something that isn't easily transmissible.
