Disjoint characters are ez pz (except for Marth, who sucks). Heavies were even easier. Small light characters, much harder. My worst character is Zero Suit Samus. Mario had virtually no GSP because a friend took him online and tanked his score, and climbing out of that hole has been rough, especially cause I'm not actually good with Mario either.

Zss you can beat noobs just spamming down b and laser. It's a stupid wifi strategy and only works against bad players but it should get you into elite

I'll keep that in mind. Her movement just feel soooo awful with any hint of lag so keeping it simple sounds like a good plan.

Also I've discovered the Belmonts and Young Link are really fun, but now I can't play them anymore because they'll drop out of Elite Smash, and I don't want to subject people in Battle Arenas to them. What a wonderful online system.

ALSO, I really have to emphasize how trash Marth feels to play compared to Lucina. Tipper fsmash isn't enough to make up for everything else.

Can't get every character there if you don't have every character!

I'll pick up the remaining DLC is if I actually get close to completing this challenge, which is doubtful. I'm probably never getting characters like Bayonetta or ZSS in. I don't have enough Adderall running through my veins to play Fox either.

Should be able to get at least a few more in though. ROB and Wolf are up next.

Marth is a lot more fun offline. Online you are just randomly getting tippers so he's a lot less satisfying. It doesn't help they made the tipper hit box really small in ult

I will be shocked if you manage to get Sonic in with the amount of ragequits he'll likely get. But best of luck, I only ever got the DK characters in (and Dedede and Dr. Mario for some reason) before realizing I kinda hated the GSP system with all of my hate!

Funny you should mention ragequits - the Belmonts and Ness took longer than they should have because people kept quitting on me. Which denies you GSP. Ultimate's online system is so, so bad.

Triggering ragequits is more of a win than gaining GSP, because you get to picture the person fuming when they get their temporary online ban message (since they probably do it frequently enough to get increasing time penalties).

Yeah, but when the goal actually is to get into Elite Smash, it can suck the wind out of your sails. Thankfully the Belmonts are broken online. Ness is too, although I'm not so great with him.

I rarely see ragequits. Though I also haven't really played since extha left, but still. I doubt it's changed much in the past few months

I haven't kept up with Smash especially with Ultimate. Mind explaining what Elite Smash is? What do you need to do/play exactly? Is it online match making or something?

I've never gotten anyone into Elite Smash and my main regularly had a lower GSP than one of several characters I played like once.

It's just a threshold you pass when your ranking for a character gets high enough. It matches you up against better opponents and your GSP gain slows down to a crawl. Since ultimate doesn't have a real ranking system getting a character into elite is really the only achievement the game gives you

Wolf beated. Kind of fun character, I'd say middle of the pack. I mostly love how his laser shuts down like every stupid online gimmick.

For some reason, maybe because I 100%'d the single player content, my starting gsp for every character was so high it only took one win to get into elite smash.

It takes me 3-4 wins, assuming I don't lose, which I do because I haven't touched a lot of these characters.

Rob beated. Don't think I'm a huge fan of his play style but you don't need to be very good with him to do well, so hey.

You know what's weird is that I swear some of them put me in elite smash right away. Like a character that definitely wasn't according to the menu screen, but when I lost my first match it would say "This elite smash battle has been canceled"

6 straight wins with Mario only took me from 3,300,000 to 5,000,000. It's rough down there in the trenches

Side note, playing more characters has been great, because I actually get to beat up heavies. Shulk and Ike disproportionately suck against heavies, especially online, so those matchups were always very frustrating. Now that I'm trying out characters with projectiles and not-garbage frame data it's gotten so much easier.

Pick an easy character and cheese people. Heavyweights are great for this.

Marth beated. Easily the most frustrating disjoint to get in so far...although Mii Swordfighter is still waiting in the wings.

Mario and Captain Falcon beated. Falcon I think I got lucky, Mario was more 'earned'. Definitely felt more comfortable with Mario at least, Falcon has to play so campy.

falcon is definitely weird in this game. he really has only ever been able to function in melee when he could 'run through' people. if he cant do that his kit only works playing campy

Falcon also super benefited from Melee's physics momentum. Or at least he felt more fun in a game where ground->air speed momentum was preserved.

Side note: not that it affects my personal online experience, but Steve this weekend kinda sapped some of the enthusiasm I had for this challenge lmao.

Yeah knowing that Steve will never get nerfed really sucks. Nintendo man

Insane that they dropped Min-Min, Kazuya, Aegis, and Steve, barely touched any of them, and just called it quits. Specifically Aegis=Smash 4 Cloud and Steve=Smash 4 Bayonetta as a comparison does not bode well for the future

I'm an aegis main so I'm biased but I think she's way more balanced than people give her credit for. She is like Shiek, theoretically very strong but in practice the demands placed on you to get those strengths are higher and it's hard to be consistent.

Steve is so zzzz but I'll give it another major or two to see if players can develop counter picks at least

if Steves keep winning or the top players just switch to Steve (don't see this happening) then Ultimate's competitive scene is definitely gonna suffer

Steve is too weird for people to want to quit and play him in droves I think. Bayonetta and Meta Knight were much more traditional characters in comparison as far as top tiers go. Steve will probably get an uptick in regional talent picking him up for results at their locals but I don't see top players switching to him in droves. Maybe Dabuz or someone would be a good fit if he wanted to debase himself further

Yeah I always thought he was being overrated at first because his movement is so slow but they really just overtuned his kit way too much. Minecart is the best move in the game, diamond weapons are way too strong, and you can't even juggle him, which should be his largest vulnerability, because of anvil being so safe and powerful. He was designed with clear weaknesses but then given answers to cover up those weaknesses and then his strengths are too overtuned leading to an oppressive character. Definitely a failure in design.

It's unfortunate because having the blocks should make for a really interesting and creative character but that isn't even why he's good. If he were normal but had blocks I think people would think he was fun to watch. Instead he is wacky as fuck and the blocks are occasionally relevant but not why he's OP which is just the worst timeline

Whenever the last patch was sakurai said development of the game was done. So they don't have any team that can patch it anymore

They could always pull a mario kart if they don't want to fully commit to smash 6 one day

Steve's normals are absolutely ridiculous for a campy character. He boxes better than characters whose entire gameplan revolves around close combat

Hot take: the Smash Ultimate scene, a year from now, will be a shell of what it is today if Steve doesn't get banned, which he won't, despite us having evidence of what a Bayonetta situation does to a game.

Steve really isn't comparable to Sm4sh Bayoneta.

I've noticed that Steve gets more hate because he's Steve. I've noticed this first hand from friends who were hating on Steve befote his reveal, during his reveal, after his reveal, and now make claims how he's the most broken character of any game. He's obviously good, but people love exaggerating it a bit, so they can hate him more.
