In the late 90s and early 2000s people really into graphics were pretty annoying, but these days I don't know wtf happened. 4k, 120FPS framerates, highly detailed characters models, and extremely long draw distances - this is what people go on about. Gameplay isn't as important, somehow. It's dreadful. How did gamers get in SUCH a bad state? --- It has been 0 days since something interesting happened. Thrill me, chill me, fulfil me. ... I have to agree with you. Even though I enjoy good graphics myself, I'm don't give it too much weight. We live in an age, where games look so much better and run so much smoother compared to the games of the first 2-3 generations of 3D games. Almost every game is very good playable these days. Some gamers are just overly critical over the smallest things (or differences between different versions of the game). Do I enjoy the graphics of cinematic games such as The Last of Us: Part 2 or beautiful open world games such as Red Dead Redemption 2? Definitely! The fantastic graphics make these games more immersive (to me), because a part of the experience is about facial emotions and acting (TLOU2) or the scenery (RDR2). But just because these two (and other) games look great, doesn't mean, that worse looking games are bad. Graphic isn't everything. I recently finished Yakuza 0. The graphics were not impressive at all. But it didn't matter. The graphic style was good enough for me and fit the game. Most importantly, this game's focus were the quests/plot and the characters/dialogues. If the game had looked better, it wouldn't have changed my experience. --- Like: videogames, peaceful discussions, open-minded people Dislike: console wars, trolls, haters, review-bombing, bias ... You know what the worst part is? The games don't even look *that* great. Like... Ok. So, it used to be that hiding your "graphics" or making it look like film was considered impressive. Nowadays, it ain't right unless it's slightly fake looking, so the viewer gets the contrast between like the stylized character models vs the photoreal backdrop slightly out of focus behind them. And vice versa. Parts of their clothes vs their hair in the light, and so on. It's kinda lame, because you really can turn on something like REmake1 and they really were trying to impress you a little more by really trying to make you forget you were playing a game. No screenshots or trophies or streaming or online notifications. It was different. Setpieces Function > Fashion ... Copied to Clipboard!
