Id worry that the characters would actually be slow, like the Sonic games. The 3D ones. You know, where they blur the background but he realistically should be moving faster. Except he is no faster than a car.

Everyone was really surprised when Batman Arkham was actually good iirc. I don't think superheroes are particularly popular in gaming, with Spider-Man kinda being an outlier. And I suspect that players/people/the public can only stand Superman in small doses as a modern audience

you can run up to like 60,000+ kph with one of them which causes you to launch in the air lol. there is a vid of it but cant share it because the end of the url is similar to "fuck" but obfuscated and cant bypass censor or whatever. so lame

Superman has such a stigma against him, I think an Arkham quality game would be ranked a 6/10 simply because he stars in it.

Same. They could make a really, really cool Flash game with awesome set pieces. Just imagine using a ton of very, very slow motion, having you run through a building that's on fire/exploding but having it frozen in place or moving verrrrrry slowly to emphasize his speed.

Give it to Insomniac, and let them write the story, because they did insane work on Spider-Man

It probably wouldn't be hard to make most of the mooks into aliens, monsters, robots, etc. No need to have him go against common street thugs unless they're doing a Golden Age interpretation (which I would be hella down for tbh)

They should just not worry about power scaling and go all in on the wacky sci-fi shit.

Way I'd do it is treat Metropolis as a hub where you can sandbox play however you want, but then you have a mission where you have to like, break into Cadmus or a low orbit space station or something and you'd transition to an instanced level that plays like a straightforward beat-em-up.

The appeal of playing Superman would be his abilities, rather than his power level imo. Make ice breath, heat vision, flight, and x-ray vision fun to use and it really won't matter why he's not just throwing Parasite into the sun. :P

Turn flight into its own level type too rather than trying to force the full mechanic into the regular game play. Like obviously he should get some level of flight power, but then have stages where you're like, zooming through the asteroid belt dodging space torpedoes and blowing up drones and shit.

idk tl;dr I don't think Superman would work incredibly well in an open world environment but if you design levels around his abilties it could still be a lot of fun.

It is a shame that PS1 version of Superman 64 was canned because it is great.

There is a near complete build of the PS1 version. It is great. Superman is invincible in the game however the enemies shoot Kryptonite bullets. If Superman is hit, he loses his power and gains a health bar until the kryptonite bar empties. If he takes another hit, his health drops and the kryptonite bar refills.
