Does it actually expand upon this in the anime? Or is just a run off sentence: "Yeah there's a whole universe in my stomach".

It's fully explained, yeah. It's awkward that I can't spoiler tag this properly because the title of the anime would make it really obvious what I'm talking about.

In FMA, there's a thing called the Gate which is the source of all alchemical knowledge and is supposedly the doorway to God's domain. The main villain wants to get into this Gate, but he doesn't want to pay the price for it. Gluttony was a attempt to create his own Gate. The artificial Gate essentially takes the place of Gluttony's stomach and it was a failure. Instead of being a backdoor to God's domain, it just leads to a seemingly endless void where everything and everyone Gluttony eats just piles up. As you might guess from the name, Gluttony eats a lot, so the main feature of the place is an ankle-deep pool of blood.

Spoilers, but three of the main cast of characters find themselves there because Gluttony swallows them whole, but when Gluttony usually eats something he eats like a normal person with chewing and swallowing, so any other people that ended up there before the characters we're following did didn't get there in one piece. We do see some decaying remains of a person he ate earlier in the story, but for the most part it's just inanimate objects and the endless pool of blood.

Dagone. This cartoon is starting to sound dope. I might have to look into it.

Oh. That's some pretty cool lore. I've seen the majority of FMA when it was on Toonami back in the day, but I don't remember any of that. And I never watched Brotherhood.

Cray, that one church goon from Liore that walked in on Lust, Envy and Gluttony and witnessed Envy transforming from a Father Cornello-lookalike to his normal appearance. He confronted them, Lust killed him, and Gluttony disposed of the corpse.

The one I was talking about is Brotherhood. The first one was made while the manga was still being written and it caught up too quickly, so it ended up doing its own storyline. They're both quite good, but most people agree that Brotherhood is better. The only thing I will say is that Brotherhood almost assumes you've seen the first anime and it speeds up some of the early plotlines. Episodes that were fully adapted into two or three episodes in the first anime will be one episode in Brotherhood.

Ohh is that what gluttony was, it's been over 10 years so I can't remember but was that explained in the show, he was flask guy's attempt at a gate?

i always assumed that Kirby is like the Galactus of the Nintendoverse...

Quick recap of story beginning. Spoilers just in case.

2 young brothers. Father is an alchemist. Mom is mom. Father goes off to do alchemist things. Never returns. Family is waiting on return. Father taught the 2 boys the very basics of alchemy. So they can do minor things.

Mom gets sick and eventually passes. Older of 2 brothers looks up what the chemical make up of the human body is and gathers those materials.

Together the 2 brothers try to bring their mother back using alchemy because they think all they need is the stuff that the human body is physically made up of.

Stuff don't work that simple. They learn this the hard way. Essentially to get her soul back the alchemic process takes the younger brothers entire body in attempted exchange for the soul of the mother. When he realizes what is happening. The older brother sacrifices his left arm and right leg I believe to take his brothers soul and anchor it to a suit of armor. That's why one of them is an empty suit of armor.

After they survive this. They set out to try and fix their own bodies making a promise to never attempt to bring the dead back to life. The requirements are not 1 to 1 as they stupidly thought.

That is the reason their anime adventure starts. From their the story gets dope and stupid awesome. Totally worth watching. Both of them.

Kirby is more like Majin Buu:

Only two notes I have are that Ed and Al learned the alchemic basics from Hoenheim's textbooks instead of Hoenheim directly, and that the exchage for their mother took Al's entire body plus Ed's left leg, with Ed sacrificing his right arm to bring back Al's soul and bind it to the armor. Otherwise the summary is perfectly accurate.
