Former World Wrestling Entertainment boss Vince McMahon paid $5 million of around $20 million previously unrecorded expenses to Donald Trumps foundation in 2007 and 2009, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal. The report comes weeks after McMahon retired as CEO of the company amid investigations into hush payments he made related to alleged sexual misconduct. WWE has since said its boards independent probe into the matter is substantially complete. While the majority of the $20 million in payments went to women who accused McMahon and another WWE executive of sexual misconduct, another $5 million was used for unrelated purposes, according to a recent securities filing. The $5 million represented charitable donations to the now-dissolved Donald J. Trump Foundation, the Journal reported, citing sources. The donations were given during two years that Trump made appearances on televised WWE events. The $5 million in contribution payments should have been cataloged as business expenses, because McMahon was a principal shareholder and the payments benefited the company, an attorney for WWE told WSJ. The first of the two appearances resulted in a $1 million fee for Trump and a personal contribution from the McMahons of $4 million to his foundation. For his second appearance, Trump was paid $100,000 and McMahon and his wife, Linda, donated $1 million to the foundation.

I think this was when Trump did WM for WWE. That might be how Vince paid Trump.

So Vince did wrong because he lied about them being personal payments when they should have been treated as business expenses, and Trump did wrong because he took most of the payments for his appearances on WWE television as a "donation" rather than an appearance fee to avoid having to pay income taxes on those payments. Just old rich dudes doing illegal old rich dude things.

And then Trump gave McMahons wife a high-ranking government office.

Theoretically and in a vacuum it's probably OK to accept donations to a charity in lieu of an appearance fee. That said, Trump's charity was a dumpster fire of a mess.

why am i not shocked by this...

So heres the thing about wwe pay. They are actually paid pretty handsomely, but considering they are on the road 300 days and vince doesnt help with rental cars or hotels, that kind of adds up. Also doesnt provide health insurance. So a guy who makes 200,000 might be looking at 80,000 at the end of the year.

Also, the really popular guys can make a million, but you have to be rock, hogan, cena status.

So in 2009, Vince sold RAW to Trump and bought it back at twice what he sold it for, AND donated $1 million to the Trump Foundation. I knew Vince loves Trump but didn't know he loves Trump this much

I think plenty of guys these days make more than a million. Strowman's contract was supposedly noteworthy because he had $1 million guaranteed (and apparently most dudes don't get that much as a downside) while most other guys have lower guaranteed money but make a lot more off of bonuses and appearance fees.
