They cannot marry outside their own race, unless they leave the sect. But of course, this is all due to their religion, and the fact they don't want to narrow out their gene pool. Seems mighty convenient. Hell, the Japanese does this, and they don't even need religion as an excuse.

Maybe. But part pf me sees value in living a life without technology. So, I can see that angle as genuine. Then if you actually see technology as something that is harmful to your children, it makes sense to try to keep it away from them.

I know next to nothing about Amish people tho.

There are Amish communities out there that do allow modern technologies like Smart phones, and solar panels. So, I guess it's a case by case thing.

It's not their "race", it's outside their faith. (Yes, Old Order Amish allow seekers [outsiders] to join the faith)
Which quite a few religions practice similar traditions, not just Amish (Old Order Amish, since Amish can mean pretty different things and some use technology).

A lot of technology would help them as a business. But if the lean into that, they're no longer any different than everyone else. Maybe I just have a shallow understanding of the Amish, so I just focus on the technology stuff. But, I feel like they were never about using technology to get around inconveniences.

People use religion to justify their horrible beliefs all the time.

That's like 80% of the point of the religion in the 21st century.
