Maybe not the beads, some had the cowboy doors. The last one I saw was at a Major Video back in 1998. I was a week away from turning 21 but the lady who worked there still wouldn't let me in there.

There used to be a place down the street from me when I was growing up that was a convenience store on the main floor, then they had a video rental place upstairs on the second floor.

There was a porno section that was pretty much a closet and there was beads hanging down over the doorway.

Naw the Family Video out here just had the porn out in the regular sections just with strategically placed stickers.

It wasn't at places like Blockbusters or Hollywood Video, but more mom and pop video places. We also have an amazing video game store here in Portland called Movie Madness that had a great porn section and a huge anime collection, which was amazing before the Internet streaming

It has a lot of props from old movies that's fun to check out, but I don't think it's open anymore.

Story time.

Was working at a Movie Gallery one time. Store is tiny, just me working.

Now, the manual or whatever said there's paper bags in the adult room for the customer to 'discreetly bring them to the register' ().

This guy walks in, only customer in there. Goes into the adult room, buys a movie with the locking plastic case over it. Its my job to unlock it.

So i take the little tool thing and i am fussing over this case for a long time trying to get it open. The guy is silent but I can just sense him either getting impatient or nervous or both.

Eventually i say screw it and I call one of the longtime female employees who lives a few blocks away. She comes in.

Now imagine being this guy who probably felt safe buying an adult movie in front of another guy who now has the embarrassment of a female employee easily unlocking the case so he can buy it.

You might think so what, but this guy's anxiety ramped up to 11 when she showed up
