I went to the fast food place Jack In The Box the other day and got behind two cars waiting at the drive thru menu thinking this should only take 5 minutes to order and get my food. It literally took over a half hour or so to get through the drive thru and get my meal. 10 minutes per car.

And I find out at the take out window there's only one guy working in there. That's fucking crazy managing a fast food joint all by yourself. No wonder he sounded kinda depressed when I was ordering food at the menu.

Thinking about that tonight, I don't think I can manage something like that if I had do the cleaning business I work at all by myself. My hours would double or even triple and I'd probably get exhausted after the 4th or 5th building I've cleaned.

Anybody ever have to work in those kind of conditions with a lack of staffing in the workplace?

I manage a movie theater. We participated in the $3 admission price on Saturday for National Cinema Day. We are normally very slow this time of year so you expect to be a bit understaffed with college kids leaving and high schoolers not being able to work as late. Well, add to that yesterday a couple not coming in and one quitting made for a hectic day.
I've worked much busier days but the lack of staffing made it seem that much more than it was.
Plus, they literally gave us less than a week before telling us about this day so no time to prepare really.

A vacuum shop. It was me and one other dude and the dude teaching me stuff was someone who quit and started back up multiple times apparently. They tried to make me run the whole store within a month and I didn't know anything. I got too anxious and didn't like feeling dumb everytime a customer asked me something. I was never taught about anything lol.

Now in days, Id probably care less about looking dumb. But it would still be super annoying to have to tell the customer I have to call them back every time, so I could call and get the information I needed for the specific call

Yeah, I was the only guy on floor a few times, part of why I quit.

yeah i was usually the only guy for my particular job in the airforce whenever i worked panama shift and midnight shift. wasn't too bad tho tbh since they don't really expect much work done from a single person ahaha. heck a lot of the work was punted off to the swing shift (afternoon shift) anyways by the dayshifters >.>. i was just an aircraft maintainer that worked exclusively on the environmental and electrical systems.

I've seen a few stories about a fast food place only having one guy in the entire store and I just don't get it. I'm 100% not working by myself in that situation, the owners and GM can blow me.
